Leafs needed a 3rd goalie, and this fits the bill.

Yes, you can argue that h's got too good of a "name" to clear waivers, but it would go against the DNA of any competent GM to say "I've got $850k to spend, let's get a goalie, but make sure he's not good enough to be picked up on waivers".

Perfectly happy to have a vet like Jones to stand behind Samsonov and Woll.

I bet he figured better, at this point in the off-season, to have a guaranteed contract as a number 3 and fight your way up to a 2 or 1/wait for injuries then sit without a contract/gamble on a PTO.

Now just waiting for the inevitable - several other goalies pass through waivers, and Jones gets claimed before the season even begins.

How does a goalies have a really good average but not so good save percentage lol weird numbers. I love the signing. Keep Samsanov and Jones!

I was going to be mad but it's low enough it can be buried and our goalie depth is kind of bad if an injury occurs. A warm body whose got experience.

As bad as he’s been for a while, don’t mind having a third string goalie who was good in this league once upon a time.

5 seasons without getting above .900. No idea what this guy is still doing in the league.

Not sure how anyone is surprised. They weren’t going into the season without signing a veteran who could be a backup, but likely clear waivers when need be. It’s also the best case scenario for a goaltender in this position, because the Marlies are in TO, and he’s not bouncing from place to place.

Probably the worst goalie in the NHL.

How you can go 27-13 with an .886 is absolutely mind boggling.

Hasn't posted a save percentage above .900 since 2017-18.

Someone smarter than me explain how the Leafs are going to be under the cap when the season starts. 2.9 over now.
They can send Timmins down, all of his cap hit should come off. Gambrell and Jones, but that's just shy of the 2.9, so I'm assuming they must have a different way.

Maybe they break someone's knee cap.

Love it.

He's a #3 brought in to be our #3. What's the problem? He could legit go the whole year with the org and still step on the ice for zero games.

Every organization needs to have a third stringer who can handle an NHL start in a pinch. We have that now.
