MacKinnon would be behind Patrik Laine, who's known as a bad and slow skater.

He is fast, but probably belongs in the 15-20 fastest region. Zucker accelerates quicker. I would say that both are probably not in the top 10...Zucker is now very effective at making his speed work for him. Isn't Saad fast?

I also notice we aren't mentioning many Dmen.

From almost standing still to.. rocket mode. lol

Always thought Byron fast, but in this clip it looks like Preds D Irwin keeps up and pretty much catches him by the end (though he misplays it), so not a great illustration.

Yes that's not the best clip to show his speed.

That was the end of his shift.

That's probably a better clip.

Krug who isn't a bad skater looks like a pylon.

My list:

1. Michael Grabner
2. Miles Wood
3. Andreas Athanasiou
4. Connor McDavid
5. Dylan Larkin
6. Erik Karlsson
7. Carl Hagelin
8. Taylor Hall
9. Matt Duchene
10. Nathan MacKinnon

Honourable Mention goes to Phil Kessel in his Maple Leafs days.

If i missed anybody, give me some slack because i made this list off the top of my head.

What's your list?

Laine is faster than MacKinnon.:)

I think a lot of people overlook Jonathan Drouin with this. What's amazing is, when he was drafted, the one knock on him was his skating/speed. Two years later he won the fastest skater competition and, at that time, was really not close to as fast as he is right now. He was about the 3rd or 4th fastest player on the team. Now, he's unquestionably the fastest Lightning player and it seems like he gets a little faster every year.

Grabner is definetely faster than Hagelin. I have watched both alot the last 5 years. Hagelin is fast but Grabner is just faster than anyone we play against. Ive never seen a player in the NHL beeing that fast when it comes to skating in a straight line. Its ridicolous. He has multiple breakaways every game.

I also think Karlsson is top 10. When he wants and needs to he is incredible fast.

grabs is nearly as fast as he used to be. For a while hernia's really bothered him (needed surgery in two consecutive off seasons on both sides), but he seems to have recover as of the start of this season. You could really see the balance issues he had last season and the two seasons before that.

But he was even faster back in the day.

Vinnie Hinostroza is a name that will probably be on everyone's top 10 over the next few years. Just hasn't had enough exposure yet to get noticed by anyone other than Hawks fans.

McDavid is the official fastest player as clocked at the all Star game, and with the puck he eats AA, Larkin, Grabner alive.

While I agree that McDavid is the fastest skater, I don't think the All-Star Skills Competition should be taken as an official representation for that. The majority of specialists (fast skaters, hard shooters) aren't even there. Larkin couldn't defend his title* and Weber was the only guy who could really rip it. On top of that the Fastest Skater competition seems to change format every other year. I wish they'd go back to the full rink lap and stick with it.

I'd also imagine that most of the guys there are either hungover or counting down the minutes until the party. Take MacKinnon for example; the guy looked like he could care less about being there. He knew he was just there for mandatory representation.

Sorry, my good man, but the Hawks have so much exposure that the kid in tears in the tire swing can describe them in minute detail to the uniformed man taking notes in front of flashing lights.

Larkin mentioned that Eichel might be faster after winning the fastest skater contest.

Eichel won't get many votes. His stride is so deceiving. It's effortless looking, so it doesn't look like he's skating hard.

See his breakaway against Chicago. Seabrook is skating as hard as he can to catch Eichel. Eichel hardly looks like he's trying. And Seabrook didn't catch him.

Seabrook is one of the slowest players on the team. Thats not a feat.
