And Marty took crap from the players association for taking less. His take home pay was about the same after saving on agent fees but it hurt other goalies who wanted to use Marty as a comparison.

No question the players association groups are very big on jamming the teams for every nickel regardless of what the player wants. Drew Brees went through this when negotiating two contracts with NO. As a bigwig in the players association he felt it important to squeeze the team or at least appear to do so. I still think he left a few dollars on the table which is crazy to say about someone making 20 mil. I'm sure Brady took some guff at some point from the agents for the other QBs.

I personally don't see how Hall gets 8 years.

There are 10 forwards in the NHL age 35 or older.

Parise- 7.538 million
Koivu- 5.5 million
Spezza- 700k
Nielsen- 5.25 million
Filppula- 3 million
Thornton- 2 million
Kovalchuk- 6.25 million
Steen- 5.75 million
Backes- 6 million

After analyzing this... Does Ray Shero want to sign Hall to an 8 year deal after a major knee surgery where he's making 11.5 million against the cap (or 11) as a 35/36 year old?
The league is getting younger and younger and guys are signing shorter term deals.

I am predicting he signs here for 5 years somewhere between 10-12 million per year.

Over 11 and he'll be the fourth highest paid player in the league.

If the most important thing to Hall is winning... what other contender can sign him to that big of a deal? I think our biggest competition to sign Hall is Colorado.

5 years?!?! :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Somehow I doubt he will sign for a length of anything less than 7 years....Just a hunch.

On the topic of what dollar amount Hall will agree to sign for, be it here or elsewhere, his main priority might be to play for a consistent winner and it would be fantastic if he does wind up signing here and signing for less than anticipated, but at the same time he also didn't hire a new agent to help him decide who he thinks will be a consistent winner.

If memory serves, Ferris was with Orr's agency which is who used to rep Hall. It may be as simple as Hall went with Ferris out of personal loyalty and a pre-existing relationship more so than looking just to jam his next contracting partner. That said, seeing how the Marner thing played out doesn't inspire confidence although Ferris's refusal to speak publicly about Hall's contract negotiations is a good sign.

I think that is more Ferris taking advantage of a rookie GM vs. doing anything terrible. From what I've seem Ferris and Shero get along quite well.

No one but that is because this will only be the 8th season since the term limit on contract length was out in place.

That’s fair.

My point being, I don’t really fret about 8-year contracts for players because all it’s doing is guaranteeing an income for the player. Teams will most likely move contracts before that time period is up. I can see Crosby, Toews, Kane etc., finishing out their contracts with their respective teams, but I feel pretty confident that Panarin’s contract will be moved before the 8-years are up.

I wasn't too sure of the timeline either, but the below link gives us a better picture on that. Ferris left Orr in 2012 to start his own agency and Hall had been with Orr since at least before he was drafted so the familiarity is a fair point and could very well have played into his decision to switch agencies.

Personally, if Hall re-ups here I could see a more middle of the road type of dollar amount, not much of a discount yet not something outrageous either.

Hall said (recently) from day one he's been treated as first class here in NJ, and he liked or even loved how well the Devs have treated him. Do you think its possible Shero and Hall know what shape he might be in, in 8 years and Shero guaranteed him a "position" in the organization after 6 or 7 years if he's not able to play anymore?

Yeah, I could see that. 10.7M cap hit.

I suppose at that number you can say he's leaving a little bit on the table, considering some of his comparables. Or maybe it's the slightest discount for his injury history. I'd be fine with it. And you've gotta hope the next TV deal juices the cap big time.

They better hope they draft a special player or two on the back-end because I doubt we'll be able to make another Subban-type grab in 3-5 years.

Devils should draft the Jesper Bratt of Defensemen next. ;)

If they just got the green light to start talking dollars and cents a few days ago then I don't think it's reasonable to have a contract signed this quickly.

Ray has day to day stuff to take care of, on top of getting both sides to agree. This will probably take a few weeks at least.

trade his ass, the goddamn snake :sarcasm:

I tried that too for kicks

Best offer was from WPG with their next two 1sts and a 2nd + B prospect

From which I could cobble together a package for LHD help hmmm

At least I don't need to ask for his no trade list
