Wonder if we could see Flint/Erie/Saginaw cross into some Ontario cities or play strictly on the road for the first half the season and just call Vaughn or somewhere similar with sufficient rinks home.

Also not to stir the pot, but has anyone else heard anything of a possible Wolves sale?

I haven't heard any rumours but have no insider knowledge either. I would be worried if this were the case though, because there likely wouldn't be an interested local party considering I doubt Zulich would want to sell at a big loss, and Zulich selling would essentially be confirmation of what most of us fear already, that the new arena is never happening.

I hate to be a downer, especially because there is nothing to this as far as I know and we're only talking hypothetically here, but I'm thinking a sale (again, hypothetically) could very well mean the end of the Wolves long tenure in Sudbury.

I've been wondering when the rumors of this would surface. There was some speculation in the community, since the acquisition, that the plan was to package the sports teams only to gain support for the arena/hotel/casino project as the end prize. Without the approvals, or with them remaining in limbo, perhaps Zulich is growing tired of paying for the teams which haven't gained him the support he'd hoped for? The COVID situation may have accelerated this.

If it happens, 95% chance the party who buys the team does keep it in Sudbury, I do know this. Was just hearing some stuff and was curious who else had, I'd rather not say names unless other people have heard the same.

Ask yourself at this point can you see social gatherings of more than 5000 people without distancing by the end of October. London puts close to 9000 in their barn. That is what it would take for a season to start. I would put this out, money set aside for sport and leisure in this country be used toe reimburse CHL teams to start the season and games would be televised locally. Any thoughts?

In regard to gov’t funded televised CHL hockey, I can state with confidence that my retired parents thoughts and any other taxpayer that does not put their earned disposable income towards CHL hockey would be hard no. The burden of having to pay for COVID handouts in the near future is enough, don’t you think?

Clearly major league professional sports are struggling with how to patch work their seasons so how does this translate to minor league sports? I cannot see junior hockey playing a regular (normal) season this year. There is no way to make it financially viable for the owners let alone safe.

I heard a rumour too, I also heard that Cornwall is sniffing around for a team and Zulich is looking there. Just a rumour tho….
I’m just gonna throw out what I’ve heard (I know the Zulich family well, but also some others mentioned here moreso)
  • Zulich is threatening to move to Vaughn or Markham if the arena doesn’t happen soon
  • Burgess is looking at buying his team back, apparently he really wants to
  • Brian Savage has interest as a buyer
  • There has been inquiries from out of town parties
  • The Foligno party is also still kicking around as always though Burgess/Savage/out of Sudbury are the big 3

Carful with rumors and fake news, and if you know the family well, show the man some respect and keep it off the net

I may be wrong but I don't think Vaughan or Markham have rinks that would be suitable for the OHL

I’m not sure either, these were just the places I’d heard. I believe there was also a Facebook post about this from someone who was present for Darios comment, though I’m not on Facebook so I can’t find it.

I haven't heard anything as of yet, I don't blame him if he decides to sell, many variables like the new arena, low attendance, etc. I think a lot of CHL teams will be trouble due to Covid if regular season with attendance doesn't happened. I guess be good time to buy if someone looking buy a team. Hopefully team will always stay in Sudbury with a new modern arena.

I didn't think anything here was disrespectful TBH. I read the comment and didn't think much of it and figured this is all just political. If Zulich wants to be political and posture a certain way he has to expect word to get out. If anything this puts more pressure on the city? I think there's nothing to see here but the quick defence on behalf of Zulich makes me wonder a lot more. Reactions to comments are much more telling IMO.

Agreed, I’d be heartbroken if we lost our team.

Lets just relax and take a deep breath.. take these rumours with a grain of salt
Could it be just a ploy to diffuse and hurry council before the recent Sudbury Arena reno plans keep gaining traction and approval ratings from fed up taxpayers?

Personally Build the dame casino on the Kingsway, (I'm not a user and don't see the economic benefit when everything is factored in including the social costs) but I realize a minority do. As far as the Sudbury Arena reno, lets get going and save us taxpayers some money (we have $15 million in Covid costs to cover).

I think this is all it really is, though I do know it’s tough times
