Should Stamkos remain Captain next season, and will Point and/or Kucherov finally get a letter?
lmao.

This thread sometimes, man.

Guy has 4 years left on his GREAT contract
Last 3 years
86 points in 78 games
98 points in 82 games
66 points in 57 games

Best face-off guy, only reason our PP isn't trash. No one besides Hedman even deserves the C right now.

Don't be silly.

Sure his career is a "what if" due to some flukey injuries but the guy is still a huge piece to this team. He's not the best player on the team but we're still a better lineup every night with him. Which makes our team that dangerous because of how well we can play with out him.

A Captain that is often absent during the playoffs, but anyway what's your opinion of Point and/or Kucherov getting a letter?

I'm not sure I'd use the word often. He's played 70 career playoff games including all of the 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018, and 2019 runs. But still, why should that matter on who gets a letter and who doesn't? He's clearly the captain of the team and the face of the franchise.

I love Stammer but he is injured..alot.. I dont necessarily think we should trade him but part of me wonders how much we need him. I'm probably ignorant in this statement but I think there is some truth there. Cap relief and some great picks and top end prospects would definitely get me to listen. Especially if we go all the way. I'm probably wrong but I don't know why this feels right.

Cap relief for what? A Cirelli/Killorn/Sergachev over Stamkos? Nah.

What happens if Point goes down then? Look at our center depth.

And I mean, he has an NMC the rest of his contract so it's a moot point anyways.

Point's still a bit young. Let him contojiento develop his game and finish off his bridge deal. Sometimes letters will make players change their game (although Point's game is pretty well rounded)
Give him the A later.
Kuch doesn't need a letter.

Our A's will be Hedman, McDonagh, Palat next year.

Stamkos is still the face if this franchise. Dude still puts up points. Yes this is the 3rd time he's missed playoffs with us but he's still played 70 PO games, including our last actual Cup run. He's only 30 and one of the few who actually shoots the damn puck on our team.

He clearly came back ready to go, but being off for like 7 months he went a little too hard in practice and pulled or tore something. Hard to fault him for that fluke injury. It would be hard coming back after that much of a layoff

Stamkos makes this a better team period. Is it frustrating that he is injured often? Yes but none of the injuries he has incurred are career ending type. In three years his contract may well be bad for his production but the team has benefited with a point per game guy since 2010 every season except 15-16 he has been above a point per game. These type player do not just fall from trees.

It is a fools folly to even think right now that he is not a big piece of this team. His leadership is huge as well and a big part of his being given a NMC. Players that are not given trade or movement clauses are seen to be expendable while some that are given NMC's or NTC's fail and cause issues.

Your captain doesn't have to be your best player or even your best leader. I don't think the players even care who wears the letter.

Lol I agreed right up until the last paragraph. I'm not sure if you've noticed the trend in TB contracts.

All valid points. I just hate how hes absent a lot. We pay him a lot and he's productive when healthy but we need him to be healthy!

I don't think you're gonna be waiting a whole lot longer. It's been 7 weeks since he hurt himself in practice and we all know he was yucking it up with the boys after the 5 OT marathon and we're at least another week from the Conference Finals starting -assuming we make it. So unless Stamkos suffered an absolutely disastrous injury that was somehow not bad enough to impede his ability to walk under his own power comfortably even back then - I think he's got to be pretty close to coming back. I'm no doctor and I genuinely have no idea what is wrong with him. But the bulk of injuries tend to resolve after about 8 weeks without surgical intervention.

But of course I could be wrong

I think Stamkos will probably play in the ECF (if we make it there, only one win away). I do feel like he will be playing a little hurt though but tons of players usually play through injuries in the playoffs.

I get all that and I do feel bad for his injury history. It sucks for him and for the team, because we are definitely a better team with a healthy Stamkos. The problem is that he keeps getting stupid injuries that keep his talent off the team at important times. And whether we want to talk about it or not, he cost 8.5 mil a year. He's definitely worth more than that when he's healthy but he hasn't been when we need him most. I hope he proves me wrong and comes back on fire because if we have the Stamkos we know and love back into this lineup it's going to be difficult to beat this team. I'm not expecting him to be like that after a long layoff but even if he can give a boost to the PP then pretty much the same statement can be made.

Nothing I'd like to see more than him to come back and make a positive impact on the team and I dont expect to see anything less than some positive impact on his return. Just a small fear he could disrupt a little flow and chemistry we have going on.

If anything you sit Paquette and put Stammer in, roll with 11-7 then you can ease him back in with sheltered minutes. Offensive zone starts with Point and Kuch. You dont touch the 3rd line obviously but you can shift him with whoever without really having to change the lines much. Are people really gonna complain with him in our lineup as opposed to any of our 4th line guys.

Plus Power Play 1, which has been good of late still isn't where we want it yet. Stammer and Heddy to PP1 and we're laughing

Sheltered minutes while going 11F? I’m not sure.

I think the over the top criticism of Stamkos is unwarranted (like that he shouldn't be captain), but it's reasonable to say he has underacheived in the playoffs. Because it's hard to make the case that he hasn't.

He had his fair share of highlight reel goals in the playoffs however. But in contrast to the reg he’s not a superstar level player in the playoffs, just a good one.

It's more about how rarely he comes up big in big moments, and the level of players he's comparable to. His numbers are almost identical to Johnson's in the playoffs, and just a tick above Killorn's. So I mean, yeah, he's "good" in the playoffs compared to the average player, but the expectations on him are higher. He's not in Kucherov or Hedman's stratosphere, and it's looking like he won't be in Point's.

Paq and Maroon havent had a whole lot of ice time. I think Schenn only played maybe 10 minutes (I know he's D, but the minutes seem to be distributed well) give him easier matchups, offensive zone starts and PP time. Ease him in a game or two

Mack Truck returning and performing like a beast last night, might help. 12/6 with sheltered minutes I wouldn't mind him being PP specialist and rotating in slowly. 11/7 makes it more difficult, especially if series starts earlier than wcf :ha:
