Esposito was the one who floated the retirement (done with hockey - possibly LTIR) rumor.
Yeah. I mean Espo can go off on some major limbs, but when I heard he'd floated it I started thinking about it differently. Mainly because it's such a weird injury/situation, which isn't helped by covid.

When Stammer re-signed in 2016, one of his sponsors Sport Chek sent out a tweet with an image of Stammer and the words "Unfinished Business" on it. This angered some bitter Leaf fans and they ended up deleting it a few days later. I think @unfinishedbusiness91 had a piece of it as his avatar for a while. Any chance someone has the image saved? Can't seem to find it anywhere.

Couldn't love this more enough. All heart. With hindsight, it's a remarkable achievement from Captain Stam. Risked himself aggravating an injury (probably did), worked 2 shifts to LEGITIMATELY get his name on the Cup. Scored a textboot Stammer beauty goal in that process.

When Hedman was borderline crying when McGuire talked him about Stamkos, Now I understand. O' Captain my Captain.

Is it weird that they're still not saying anything though? I feel like after losses we find out the injury situation within a few hours (Tyler Johnson's broken wrist). Maybe it's different with wins?

We've got a parade to enjoy. Bad news would hang like a cloud. We'll probably find out by the weekend

No doubt, but I wouldn't read too much into it. Does Stammer walking around with the cup look like a guy that's got a career ending injury? They just got into town, they're celebrating, I don't think anyone has sat down for any sort of exit interview yet. Just because it's taking time to shed more light to the media doesn't mean it's something that bad.

Congrats on the Cup win TBay fans.

Question, has there been any legitimate rumors about Stamkos LTIRetiring, or just talking head speculation?

Really hope he is fine. I've always been a big Stamkos fan and it would suck to not see him on the ice again, even if he does go out with a cup.

Here's a good article:
Lightning expect Steven Stamkos to start next season, whenever that is

Key discussion:
Stamkos resumed practicing with the team after it entered the postseason bubble in Toronto on July 26. Then he stopped practicing. Eventually he resume skating, but his only postseason appearance was in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final. He played 2:47, all in the first period.

BriseBois didn’t have specifics on the injury because it hadn’t been possible for Stamkos to see a specialist without leaving the bubble, which would have required the captain quarantining before he could re-enter.

Stamkos is expected to see a specialist next week, after which BriseBois said they’d know more.

The part I find weird is the unwillingness to see a specialist just because of the quarantine implications. Presumably, that would've been 14 days. That means he could've left at the start of the round robin in August and been back and through quarantine before the start of round 2.

I mean, did he spend the whole playoffs thinking "just another few days and this thing will feel right enough to play", and thus it wouldn't be worth it to be unavailable for 2 weeks -- but it just never got better? Or did he know it was bad and there was next to no chance of coming back, and decide he wanted to be there with his guys 24/7 rather than take two weeks off?

I'd guess it's probably the latter, but now there's a risk he'll need more surgery and he's set himself back two months. Hmm, that makes me realize that the headline of that article isn't really very reassuring, given that he hasn't seen a specialist yet.

I just laughed at the thought of trading Stamkos. I want him to retire as a Bolt, he is the captain and the face of the franchise.

Then I tried to put the emotions aside for a moment. If we look forward, can we keep a second line center with a 8.5 million cap hit? Not that it's a bad contract, rather the opposite, but with Point emerging as our first line center, it does make one think of the options.

Cirelli would be a solid second line center and Stamkos would fetch a nice return, a good young player and picks/prospects, prolonging our cup window. Also would give us some cap space.

It's thought-provoking and feels wrong..I feel dirty just thinking about it, as I love Stammer..but is it that crazy?

I would trade Stamkos he is always injured and they proved they can win consistently with out him. His contract at 8.5 million a year frees up a ton of cap space. Do you really want to pay that kind of money to a injury prone cheerleader. I know he has been there a long time but out of all this trade talk about Johnson, Killiorn , Palat , Cirelli , the one that makes the most common sense is Stamkos and his contract.

Just because we made it without Stamkos doesn't mean we shouldn't try to ice the best possible lineup for next season, and Stamkos is 100% a part of that.

How on Earth is trading Stamkos "common sense" and what do you mean by "Stamkos and his contract"? He gets paid the same amount of money as Johnson and Killorn combined, two depth players.

JBB said someone unexpected may move. Stamkos may go to Toronto? Could it finally be happening?

It's not happening. Stamkos is a living meme now.

Stammer also knows now how to win. It doesn't seem like Toronto values that.
