I think you misunderstood what I was saying. My point is that players who fall in the draft aren't always the steals of the draft.

Ofc not, the draft is a guessing game. But i would say those that picks the most obvious players have overall much more success with their picks.

Definitely the homer in me but I would say Damiani and Mascherin are both steals for the stars. Dams is coming off a great year of being in a shut down role and will get the offensive chances this coming year. People might see Masch as a failure fue to his saga with the Panthers, the whole situation did not end well. That being said Mach has elite scoring potential and an NHL ready shot, he is also a hard worker so I would put money on other aspects of his game growing once he is out of junior.

Right. HFBoards also "knew" when Angelo Esposito was a steal on draft day. Same with Hunter Shinkauruk, Kiril Kabanov, Nikita Korostelev and Jordan Schroeder. Those guys fell hard on draft day, but HFBoards knew they were steals. People just choose to forget that they ever said that about all of these players.

Can confirm this... sadly. I remember being so happy when the Canucks picked Shroeder and Shinkaruk who were both fallers and were steals in the 1st round. Turns out they both were huge disappointments and busts.... or maybe it was just bad development by the Canucks. Probably both

Out of the 100's of names I studied, I only ended up ranking the first two rounds. Based on my rankings of the top-62 players, here are the only guys that went 10+ spots after I had them ranked.

I'm absolutely stoked to see the Leafs ending up with Filip Kral in the 5th round.

I'll just do 3rd round+ since the first 2 round names are rather similar. Some are obviously better or higher potential than others; some I'm a little more fond of than others (Nordgren, Wise, Shafigullin, Stastney, Zhuravlyov in particular). But for talent + value:

#65 - Jan Jenik (ARZ)
#67 - Alec Regula (DET)
#69 - Jake Wise (CHI)
#74 - Niklas Nordgren (CHI)
#82 - Bulat Shafigullin (LAK)
#89 - Logan Hutsko (FLA)
#97 - Allan McShane (MTL)
#112 - Jack St. Ivany (PHI)
#122 - Milos Roman (CAL)
#131 - Spencer Stastney (NSH)
#141 - Yegor Sharangovich (NJD)
#146 - Danila Zhuravlyov (COL)
#171 - Nikolai Kovalenko (COL)
#185 - Xavier Bouchard (VGK)
#205 - Marcus Westfalt (PHI)

----------------------------

For reference, I did this last year 4th round+ and this was who I included:

#104 Mikey Anderson (LAK)
#105 Santeri Virtanen (WPG)
#113 Alexei Toropchenko (STL)
#117 Emil Bemstrom (CBJ)
#121 Drake Batherson (OTT)
#127 Lukas Elvenes (VGK)
#128 Tyler Steenbergen (ARZ)
#136 Leon Gawanke (WPG)
#137 Noah Cates (PHI)
#155 Linus Olund (PIT)
#180 Cole Guttman (TB)
#194 Dylan Ferguson (DAL)
#199 Cayden Primeau (MTL)
#204 Daniel Bukac (BOS)

Bergren and Wise look like the biggest steals to me. But what do I know? I just look at stats, watch highlight reels and read scouting reports.

Ty Smith is indeed the likely steal of the draft. He looked amazing in our development camp scrimmages. Could challenge for a roster spot as early as this year.

If not him, definitely the Isles with Wahlstrom
