Nice, I did a quick look up too. Think Morin (Chicago) was who Bender thought we'd draft instead of ROR and I counted Sarich as traded for SOB

I don't think you can consider Hunwick "buried." For all intents and purposes, he can be penciled in as the 7th defenceman for now, certainly ahead of Stefan Elliott in your lineup and likely the real pecking order. Roy talks a lot about Barrie being ready, etc. but hasn't said much about Elliott. I expect Stef-Duncan to be logging big minutes in Lake Erie next year. It's essentially a 22 man roster with Zanon's buyout. A spot open for a defenceman acquisition.

Actually Elliott next to Sarich was something Roy said, I think in the Season ticket conference.

You may be right though, if they pick up a defender I could see Elliott in the minors possibly.

However... I've been one of Elliott's bigger supporters when it comes to projecting him to make the roster out of camp. I really believe in the progress he made/showed at the end of the year.

No, he said Hunwick next to Sarich and they would see how Elliott does in camp.

- Roy said they're planing Wilson with Johnson, Hejda-Barrie, and probably Hunwick with Sarich. They want to see how Elliott responds in training camp.

I'd want a
McGinn-Dutchy-PAP
O'Reilly-Staz-Landy
Tanguay-Mac-Downie

Top 9 with a
Scuderi-EJ
Hejda-Barrie
Wilson-Sarich

Defense behind them. But a lot of that is like Tangs for a PAP like role next to Mac and wanted to give each of our dynamic centers one of McG/Downie so we can have a Radar-Stastny-Landy line that never gives the puck back.

Ahh, what I seen was probably just speculation then. Hard to tell the difference sometimes.

As for the forwards...

I like this as well, and I still think that's closer to what will shake out of training camp. Regardless of what Roy's ideas are right now...

I fully get the idea of starting Mac out with Downie and McGinn, even once the season starts, but swapping tangs in for McGinn and putting ginner back on dutchy's line seems like the sensible adjustment once Mac has gotten his feet wet.

I also just really want to see how beastly a Radar-Stastny-Landy line would be.

Who gets the second "A" next season?

I would go with Duchene. O'Reilly, McLeod, PAP, Tanguay, and Johnson are the only other guys I could see getting it.

I think that assuming Roy leaves the first A with Staz (and I have no reason to think he won't) the second one will go to Tanguay. Had we not traded for him it would have been Duchene.

So I would say based on the line up above, we're basically already at the cap.

We're 8 million under with raises coming to several players next year.

And people want a huge offersheet to be sent out?

Hope we win the cup this year if that's the case, because the team will be dismantled next season.

Thank you. Giving some player an offer sheet, we guarantee ourselves losing a major piece or 2 of our line-up. I wouldn't be fully opposed to never getting a true #1 D if it means we can always keep Duchene, Landeskog, and MacKinnon.

Trading O'Reilly/Stastny would eleviate some pain, but if we can trade O'Reilly (and other assets) for a top 2. Plus if we can get one of them to resign for cheaper (most likely Stastny) that would help.

Lock Landeskog and Duchene 6+ long-long-term, Barrie 2+, Stastny 4+, McGinn and Downie 2+. Then hopefully we can save $ for Mac down the road.

I hope Duchene gets it. He's really becoming a leader on and off the ice.

Bingo bango bongo.

Next summer:

Player - FA type - Current - Projected (ignoring years)

Stastny - UFA - $6.6m - $6.5m
O'Reilly - RFA - $6.5m($5m hit) - $5m
Landeskog - RFA - $3.575m - $5m
Duchene - RFA - $3.5m - $6.5m
Varlamov - RFA - $2.83m - $4.5m
Downie - UFA - $2.65m - $3.75m
McGinn - RFA - $1.75m - $3m
Barrie - RFA - $0.9m - $2.5m

Ignoring guys like Giguere, Elliott, Hishon, etc. who shouldn't be much. Really, only Staz and O'Reilly will be in the similar AAV range. The other guys will go up, and go up substantially. I think Downie could be closer to $4m as an impending UFA if he stays healthy and Ginner closer to $3.5m if he doesn't hit two posts per game. Duchene at $6.5m long-term might be a discount, who knows if he keeps exploding.

We can't be stupid here. Locking up over $6.5m AAV in Ference and Gordon would have been bad. Period.

Looking at how much some UFAs have received today it's not hard to imagine that some of our UFAs next season will have another teams willing to throw a lot of money at them.
