Nah. Nash is more name than game now. Plus the days of handing out retirement contracts to local heroes are over.

I'd sign Nash on the cheap... if we traded a winger package for a dman

Marleau- Matthews - Kapanen
Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Nash - Kadri - Brown
Johnsson- Lindholm - Jooris

Rielly- (Nylander trade)
Gardiner- Zeitsev
Dermott - Hainsey

Question
What's the chances we will the cup if we trade Nylander for a year of Karlsson?
Seems risky, but you have to think we would have a shot with that lineup....going for broke before the cap crunch and getting the ultimate prize

I'm not sure what he's got left in the tank and wouldn't want to over spend on a guy like that.

Besides, he's not even said he will play this season.

No.... he’s done. I’m also a little spiteful, I don’t want him to be here when times are good and trending up for us.

dude had 24 goals across 83 total games last year...and he plays a 200ft game.
he isn't done

If we've got $5 million spare to hand out, there's got to be a D option we can investigate who'd be a better option than Nash.

in UFA? nope

leafs have the cap to sign nash, nylander and get an upgrade on D. (18.6 mil with Horton on LTIR)
Nash actually allows them to move one of their forwards if needed

I think it would be money to bring him in around Jan-Feb on a pro-rated contract.

Stay in shape. No need for him to go through a full season.

Nylander for Trouba. Nash 1 year @ 5mil.

Nash-Tavares-Marner
Marleau-Matthews-Hyman
Johnsson-Kadri-Kapanen
Ennis-Lindholm-Brown

Rielly-Trouba
Gardiner-Hainsey
Dermott-Zaitsev

that team could win the cup

Outside of the fact that Nash isn't wanting to play this year.

- Nash has only played more than 70 games twice in the last 5 years
- He's only cracked 40 points twice in the same span
- For his career he's only scored 18 goals and 46 points in 89 playoff games; he isn't a playoff performer

He's 42 goal season in 14-15 is seeming more like an anomaly at his this stage in his career, so I doubt he's going to come here and just light it up (while being healthy).

Doesn't justify moving Nylander for Trouba (even assuming that the Jets would be interested in that, which is another thing).

Big pass.

No, based on want Johnsson to get as much playing time as possible. Plus, Leivo geez when will the guy ever get to play. Bringing in Nash would be something the old leafs would do.
Especially since Leivo is likely better than Nash at this time in his career. Nash is just about done.

If he can play AND if he wants to play AND if he's willing to sign for 1 year AND if his signing doesn't cost the Leafs any significant player to be moved... then YES!

I thought I'd be more opposed to it than I am but Nash on a 1 year deal looks kinda crazy. Getting him does not mean we trade any of our wingers though.

Nash-Matthews-Nylander
Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Marleau-Kadri-Brown
Johnsson-Lindholm-Kapanen

That's a pretty solid looking offense. I'm trying to find reasons to be against it but if it's a one year deal I don't have much, as long as he's on a line that'll get at least some soft minutes I think he'd do fine. We'd have our shutdown pairing of Marleau and Kadri back on a line.

I kind of doubt Nash goes for a 1 year deal though. Might want a deal that brings him into retirement which we can't do with our contracts next year.

Yes, but only on a team friendly 1 year deal. I wouldn't go over 3 million.

Yes, but only because I think he's better than Tyler Ennis and Josh Leivo on the 4th line.

And I would only do it if he gives us a ridiculous discount.

Yes, absolutely. He's still a damn good player. If he wants to play again, I'd sign him in a heartbeat.

Our current team could win the cup. Nylander for Trouba would be terrible, not only because Trouba is 1 year out from UFA, but because Nylander is a much better player. Keep Nylander and sign Nash.

I think he could be a real money puck signing for the Tavares-Marner line. He looked dangerous in the playoffs but didn't get any actual production out of it. I think with the frequency that he drives the net, he could look a lot better with an elite garbageman like Tavares coming in to clean up those rebounds.
I think he’d be a great late season add. Assuming he’s ready by that point.

People need to learn about performance bonuses. Also, Nash has stated he's not sure if he's even going to play.

If he was willing, for sure. He makes others expendable (depth guys, not Nylander) for a chance to land defensive depth.

I would only pick him up as an injury replacement. This is a year where the club needs to sort out their young wingers because Johnsson, Kapy, Brown and Leivo are all physically mature players with a nice chunk of pro games under their belts and not 20 year-olds who need to be eased into a bigger role. His presence clogs up the top 9 would steal key development time and the ability to showcase a forward they want to move. And as Bert said, not much of a playoff producer over a pretty big sample of games. I can't see him getting any faster
