Last thing I'm saying on this subject, other than I'm with waffledave that I don't believe this organization.
I think it's healthy to question things, the more we question things...the more we understand.
Here is what I know as facts....
1) Almost all ankle sprains can be treated without surgery. Even a complete ligament tear can heal without surgical repair if it is immobilized appropriately. They are also reportedly not hard to diagnose.
2) Doctors diagnose a foot or ankle sprain based on the results of a physical exam and imaging tests, such as X-rays or MRI scans. Again I'm told it is not complicated, although grade and severity can be subjective and the source of debate.
3) Our organization has some of the most vast resources at our disposal in the league when it comes to sports medicine, both internally with team staff and including access to some of the pioneers in sports medicine at McGill University.
4) On our staff, since the 60'sLeading our internal staff is Dr. Mulder, who was Chief Surgeon at the Montreal General has worked with McGill Sports Medicine Centre folks for the last 25 years, and served as President of the NHL Team Physicians Society for 3 years, in addition to his 57 years...57!.... working directly with the Canadiens dealings with a NHL players and related injuries.
5) The person Weber flew to meet is an Dr. Robert Anderson, who specializes in Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Surgery and is a leader in that regard in sports medicine.
6) Dr. Anderson performed Weber's last foot surgery, which put him out just about 6 months.
This is what I know as fact, that's not speculation. Put together, they create a lot of questions.
Am I or any other fan to believe Dr. Mulder, our own trainers and medical staff and the folks at McGills Sports Medicine Centre could not diagnose an ankle sprain? Is it me or does this not make sense and leave more questions than answers.
Good on Nick Kypreos on standing by his tweet, and to those drinking the Kook Aid, I'd suggest some caution and advise you to look up Jonestown and see how that worked for those following blindly.
