And on offloading all of the responsibility of a player's development onto the player themselves, both publicly and I would bet privately.

There should be a clear structure supplied to each prospect by the team. Expectations, and how to get there. There should be no ''taking 100 days to get your head right.'' That's f***ing nonsense how does that happen?

Suzuki and Kotkaniemi seem to have no problem with responsibility in their development but not everyone matures at the same rate but if its true that Poehling wasn't in game shape going into camp I don't see how you can blame the org for that.

Look, he is a Hab so I wish he makes it and is a great player for us. Love the size as a bonus.

Having said that, when we picked him I was not happy as he just looked like a 3rd liner " who plays a strong two way game and the coaches will love, but limited upside " kind of guy. When I read that most of his goals were scored by deflections I almost fell over . Like WTF is that, a deflection specialist ? Why could we not have traded up to grab Chytil instead of wasting this pick I thought.

In D+1 I was pleasantry surprised as his offense picked up.

Hattie in game one, hey, nice.

Things have tailed off a bit.

I still hope Im wrong and I want him to be developed and given every chance.

The deflection goal scorer part still breaks me up. Yeah, use 1st round picks on guys who score off deflections as their main goal scoring arsenal.

We could use a really fast, really big power forward winger that can score 20 to 25 around the net and is responsible defensively.

That's what I'm hoping he becomes. Not sure he has the vision and/or puck skills to be a center.

I wonder if there's truth to the rumour that he was out of shape when returning for the play ins? Would be the only reason I could see with CJ/Muller playing ECHL/AHL calibre types before our 1st round draft pick. I also hope it doesn't imply that Poehling has commitment issues...

He doesn't have the shot to score 20-25 either.

He was, he admitted to doing nothing after the pause

Sounds like he'd be a great fit to deflect Mete's weak shots.

why would you ever say that in public? He's clearly not the brightest person. It's one thing to admit it to MB and CJ but to say it in public is mind boggling.

Maybe to force himself to go back out there and do something with his career. Not gonna lie sitting down for a couple of months doing jack shit is hard on some people. He needs a real kick back to reality and saying it publicly is a way to tell himself that he wasted months of training and it's a way to accept the fact that he f***'d up.

it says a lot about his personality tho. He won't be and couldn't be a leader. Expect him to be a streaky guy that falls into the ablyss when things aren't working out for him.

Thats some real bust shit right there. A 3rd line LW that's good on the defensive side of the game is what I expect or a complete bust.

He better come to camp in great shape. It doesn't take long for a 1st rounder to move down the org depth chart from touted prospect to just another guy. Hope not but I just don't see much from him that makes me think he isn't going to be more than a bottom six guy if he sticks at all. Just got the sense he's another McCarron. If he came back in poor shape they should move him. To me it's a major red flag that doesn't bode well moving forward. You would have thought he would have been fired up to come back and prove he belonged.

For a European this kind of development model is very weird. Teams take responsibility for young player's development over here, both in soccer and I'd presume in hockey as well. Maybe there is some wisdom in North American model, but I've always had a hard time understanding why would you leave a 20-years old to his own devices. I guess the cream will rise to the top anyway, but seems like a lot of assets are wasted.

Maybe he wants out of Montreal. Bergevin doesn't put up with players that don't fall into line or that have bad habits on or off the ice.

He's still only 21, so hopefully this is a little bit of a wake up call. Look at what KK did during the break. He sees all the youngsters (Romanov, KK, Suzuki) all coming to training camp prepared. He has to learn that to be a professional athlete, it's not only a job, it's a different lifestyle. You're getting paid millions of dollars to keep yourself in the best possible shape.

If I had the chance to make millions of dollars between 20 and 35, you better damn believe I would sacrifice those 15 years to keep myself in top shape. You can do what you want after 35. You're set for life if you're smart anyways.

Honestly when you have the chance to become a millionaire athlete, and you don't dedicate the whole of your time to that, it really is on you and does deserve to be reprimanded via no ice time.

I think that's why hudon got ice time over him. Because hudon seems to dedicate himself to the sport. And that does deserve to be rewarded.

he was open and honest about the fact that he was focused more on his mental state than hockey.

I have no clue why most fans are so quick to give up on a kid that just played his 1st pro season... Same for Brook, thats only year 1 of his contract... I say calm down, both should be fine, kids develop at different pace...

There are many red flags already on the kid. Attitude, commitment, not in shape. All these point to him not being mature. He needs a reality check and realize nothing will be handed to him. He didn’t really help his chances the way he reacted to getting sent down. Now, compare that with how KK handled getting sent down, and how Bouchard raved about him.

Unless he makes some big changes mentally and the way he will approach next season I don’t see him doing well with the Habs.

What’s wrong with some of you?
This was his first pro year, a concussion early on, being bounced around, ending last year on high expectation.

Let him settle for a couple years at least in the AHL and possibly 3rd line in two years..

jesus. He’s got so much heart for the game, has unpolished offensive skills..

he’s a project, it will take him a few years..

he wasn’t drafted in the top 10..

Tomas Plekanec spent 3+ seasons in the AHL and he turned out pretty good. I am sure that RP has a good family behind him just like KK does, wink. Give him some time, relax, and see what happens.

Considering he had a concussion, pouted when sent down, seems like working on his mental state could be beneficial to him
Though isnt workout one of the better remedies to mental issues?? I know for a fact it is strongly recommended to depression and anxiety issues

He came here with unreal expectations from the fans and medias, his 3 goals game sure didnt help, but once the kid acknowledges his limitations and upcoming role at the NHL level, he will be a very good player for us... There is no shame at being a very strong third line center that can shut down the opposition while producing some decent offense... I expect him to become a better Danault, he has quicker hands and processes the game at a higher level with the puck on his stick...

Maybe right now he has a tough time to picture himself in our line-up, but it will come...
