"Moray".Moray. 899 or whatever save goal per week he has?? Haha
He is going to trade both, isn't he. I am getting Roberto Luongo-Cory Schneider flashbacks right about now.
Unless Pittsburgh is gonna negotiate Murray's next contract and get him signed at a reasonable rate, nobody is gonna give up much value for him. With arbitration rights he could be a huge headache for any team that acquires him and he wasn't even good this year, Jonathan Bernier was better despite playing on one of the worst NHL teams in decades
Yeah, that's the problem. A team would be trading for the opportunity to pay Murray for the two Cups he won in Pittsburgh while assuming the risk that he just keeps putting up the same numbers he did this year. What a treat.MMs response to haters thinking he is worth peanuts.

Thats risk with every goalie, not just MM. Look at how Bob is working out in FLA. He got paid, and is playing worse than MM. MM has 2 cups, and as much as people on HF throw that as nothing, GMs will look at that as well. Some will put more value to that than others, but it is important part of the overall worth, trade and $ wise. This is one of the reasons pens will most likely trade him, as he will ask for too much $ based on those cups for pens to pay, especially when they have Jarry who will be making few $M less, and looks like he is ready to take over as #1
This is a non issue. JR would grant potential destinations permission to talk to his agent to see what a potential extension would look likeUnless Pittsburgh is gonna negotiate Murray's next contract and get him signed at a reasonable rate, nobody is gonna give up much value for him. Why is the assumption that Murray will perform like he did this year and not like he did the previous 4 seasons?
Is Murray the only goalie who is judged entirely on one season's worth of performance rather than his entire body of work?
So what you saying is teams shouldn't offer a lot for the amount of risk involved?
Too late for that, as cost has been set already. If you are MM, and you look at Bob, why would you want to be payed anything less than him (no, he wont get Bob's money, but he wont be making $4M either)? GMs put themselves in this situation, so if they want a goalie who won 2 cups, they will have to pay him.

That seems optimistic, high glove , cant stay healthy and his numbers and game suffered seemingly after his fathers unfortunate death.2 cups as a starter, but he didn't get the workload of a usual SC winning starter.
He only played 13 regular season games in 15-16, and in 16-17 he only had 11 starts in the last few rounds.
To me that doesn't automatically entitle him to 8-10m. So you start at 7m, then take this past season, and it goes down from there...factor in the flat cap...5m is reasonable.
Is Murray the only goalie who should be judged exclusively off his best years and not off his most recent year?
Where are the Pens getting the money for that?Jarry for Giordano.
The problem isn't so much that he'll obviously be bad, it's the volatility of the position. It's the same reason most teams avoid taking goalies in the 1st round: there's just no telling how they'll actually turn out. Obviously Murray's resume is more established than that, but there are examples all over the league of how guys can go up and down from year to year. Spending serious assets and offering big contracts to goalies is a sucker's game. Why is the assumption that Murray will perform like he did this year and not like he did the previous 4 seasons?

That isn't to say that there isn't a GM out there willing to do it. There might even be one willing to pay a 1st. I just think it's a really bad bet to make when other options are as plentiful as they are this year.
