KG's job should have been two fold:
1. Dump UFAs for picks or prospects. These picks could then be either used to help the prospect pool or traded at the draft for depth players. Keep in mind that the chances of a mid-second rounder and a 5th rounder making the NHL isn't that great, so even 4th and 5th round picks have value. And that you can fill the roster for the rest of the year through waiver pick ups.
2. Dump bad or poor contracts with term. Lucic, Russell, Koskinen, Manning, Sekera, and Kassian. This would have been a bonus, but really this is the only opportunity to move them to a potentially desperate playoff team.
When they cleared the trade deadline without a move that was concerning. When KG said that they weren't looking to move players for pick or prospects, that was frightening. That is a tell for whoever is running this ship still doesn't have a clue.
