After two coaches now, any thoughts that the player might have something to do with it too?

I agree 100%, there is blame to go all around here. I’d actually say that Oilers management deserves most of it. It seems like they made a handshake deal with Pulj about playing in the NHL that should never have been made. Once the coaching staff concluded that Pulj was not ready he should have been in the minors or back to Europe. I assume that this has been suggested to management by the coaches but ignored, and this is why we see Pulj getting playing time that makes no sense for a prospect. How else can a coach handle a player that isn’t good enough for the NHL but management inexplicably wants to stay there?

Assuming we send down Malone, we will have 2.7 million in cap space to play with at the deadline. Nice job by Kieth opening up that room.

Larson and Klefbom is not the pairing to take us anywhere.

We need to upgrade Klefbom with a Right Handed D to play with Nurse, knock Larsson into a top 4 role.

I'm not a Klef fan but I'd probably have more time for Klef than I do Larsson. Ideally both are your 2nd pair but if we keep both, I'd have only 1 of them on the top pairing.

Regardless, the D needs an upgrade for sure

So I've been trying to identify a list of guys I would be targeting if I were the Oilers. There are better players out there, but this list is compiled while keeping in mind that I a)don't want to trade our 1st rounder, and b)know what the assets that we have to trade are.

Players currently in the NHL
Ryan Hartman, NAS
Colten Sissons, NAS
Adam Erne, TB
Adrian Kempe, LAK
Austin Wagner, LAK
Joel L'Esperance, DAL

Players in the AHL
Adam Brooks, TOR
Gemel Smith, BOS
Anders Bjork, BOS
Sonny Milano, CBJ
Morgan Klimchuk, OTT
Denis Gurianov, DAL
Julien Gauthier, CAR
Eric Comrie, WPG
John Quenneville, NJD
Nicolas Meloche, COL
Nicolas Hague, VEG
Jeremy Roy, SJS
Madison Bowey, WAS
Erik Foley, STL(injured)

Players in College
Rem Pitlick, NAS
Chase Priskie, WAS
Jordan Harris, MTL
Jeremy Davies, NJD

There is no way the Canucks give us Eriksson for Lucic. Eriksson done after 3 more years, Lucic has 4.

I'm not overly concerned about Lucic. I really believe his back condition will allow us to LTIR him as early as 2020.

He's missed like 4 games in the past 6 seasons. I don't think his back is giving him grief.

Not yet.

Give it a year.

Lucic has too much pride to make the back-end of his career an absolute joke. They'll mutually agree his back condition is too much to play the game, he'll go on LTIR and collect his cash, and the Oilers will free up 6 million.

Kieth only making small moves, but they are smart ones. Gonna have to slowly move some cap around.

lol that's a bit much.

Its actually not though. There’s nothing wrong with his back, and lying to an insurance company to deceive them out of millions is literally the definition of fraud.

Scheuermann’s isn’t something that will just keep getting worse. If it’s treated as a child, such as was the case with Looch, it’s not supposed to give you any issues.

Dude, it is well documented that Milan suffers from Scheuermann's disease. Google it.

It wouldn't be far-fetched at all, to assume that a professional hockey player with this disease sees chronic back issues creep up as he puts more and more tread on that body....especially now that he is over 30.

So I'm pretty sure the team will still have to pay Lucic, they just get the benefit of LTIR because he's too injured to play, I could be wrong, but Obviously they will look into all realities.

See my edit. I’ve done a fair bit of research on it actually because people keep claiming he’ll just get LTIRed at 30. It’s well documented that, when treated, Scheuermann’s isn’t something that just keeps getting worse over time.

So I'm pretty sure the team will still have to pay Lucic, they just get the benefit of LTIR because he's too injured to play, I could be wrong, but Obviously they will look into all realities.

If he’s on LTIR, he’d be paid by the insurance company, and the insurance company isn’t just going to fork out millions because we want capspace

Anyone else think Gus Nyquist would be a great signing this summer? Think we can get him for $5.5M x 4?

Where are you getting the cap space from?

Yep. Even with a pretty conservative estimate, we’re going to have less capspace than that, and need to fill 2 spots on the wings. If you could get Nyquist for 4.5, you could maybe pull it off. 5.5 I don’t see.

Lucic might be tradeable with 2M retained this summer. Alot of teams will get victimized by Reaves and Wilson in the playoffs. This summer there's a couple of teams that will look to find an answer for them.

Not that I've studied the case im detail (so I may have missed something) but this is what has bothered me about many people's view on Hossa. An insurance company, not Chi or Ari, will pay Hossa $800,000 per year for three years (starting last summer). He is/was covered for 80% of his salary for career ending LTIR.

I think this fact and his strong 2019 is why Kassian will get dealt at the deadline.
