Kassian is a useful player and should be kept unless it's an offer we can't refuse.
If we can trade him and not hold and cap move him for cap space for next year he is a 4th line player and makes too much, same with Benning.
Klefbom, Larsson
Nurse, ?
Sekera, Jones
Gravel
With Russell, Benning, Kaissin moved we get cap space for a top winger.
Would even be better is some team picked up Manning but that won’t happen

I think the Oilers need to keep Kassian. He brings toughness with speed. The new GM will most likely be buying out the contract of Milan Lucic, therefore, you still need someone to look out for Connor.
You can’t buynout that contract the bonus money paid 1 July is a killer.

What contracts are most similar to Lucic? Could a busy GM redpaperclip/NHL19 him into nothing eventually?

Lucic: $6 x 4 ($300k/point)
Neal: $5.75 x 4 ($257k/point)

B. Ryan: $7.25 x 3 ($143k/point)
Kesler: $6.875 x 3 ($712k/point) YIKES
Eriksson: $6 x 3 ($209k/point)

Backes: $6 x 2 ($264k/point)
Dubinsky: $5.85 x 2 ($240k/point)
After July 1, Lucic will be owed 19 million for the last 4 years.
Ryan is owed 22.5 million for the last 3 years.

Obviously both players have NMCs so that would be an issue but I'm sure cheap Melnyk would love to save some money. Plus, Ottawa could retain capspace to even things out capwise while still reaching the capfloor.

The problem is that Ryan is a significantly better player than Lucic at this point, with more than twice the production this year. I'm not sure why Ottawa would make that deal, hockey wise. Melnyk is pretty cheap, but 3.4 million over 3 years, while losing the hockey deal, is too cheap even by his standards.

It's been mentioned here a few times but how does 2 team retention work. So lucic as of July 2 will only have 16mil remaining in real dollars. (4mil per). If oilers retain 2mil, and a second team retains 2mil and then shipped off to a 3rd team. Is the retained salary in real dollars or cap dollars? I'm asking, will the 3rd team get lucic for 0 real dollars but a 2mil cap hit? That would b huge for a cheap salary floor team. Or will it be the 3 teams pay 1.33mil each in real dollars.

So I've been trying to identify a list of guys I would be targeting if I were the Oilers. There are better players out there, but this list is compiled while keeping in mind that I a)don't want to trade our 1st rounder, and b)know what the assets that we have to trade are.

Players currently in the NHL
Ryan Hartman, NAS
Colten Sissons, NAS
Adam Erne, TB
Adrian Kempe, LAK
Austin Wagner, LAK
Joel L'Esperance, DAL

Players in the AHL
Adam Brooks, TOR
Gemel Smith, BOS
Anders Bjork, BOS
Sonny Milano, CBJ
Morgan Klimchuk, OTT
Denis Gurianov, DAL
Julien Gauthier, CAR
Eric Comrie, WPG
John Quenneville, NJD
Nicolas Meloche, COL
Nicolas Hague, VEG
Jeremy Roy, SJS
Madison Bowey, WAS
Erik Foley, STL(injured)

Players in College
Rem Pitlick, NAS
Chase Priskie, WAS
Jordan Harris, MTL
Jeremy Davies, NJD

Sonny Milano is someone I've thought about before. Feels like a great low-buy type guy who could potentially blossom with a legit top6 center. Gauthier could be interesting too but I don't have as high hopes for him.

Actually, it’s only 16 million (he’s owed 3, 4, 5, 4). It’s 19 if he’s dealt before July 1st. I’ve mentioned this trade a few times. Even if Ottawa retains, it saves them money

Benning sent his 7th defenseman down today once Manning hit waivers, and neither Edler/Tanev are ready to come off IR according to the coach. Tomorrow could be a good day.

Yep. I’m really trying not to get my hopes up, but it sure looks like Manning might actually be gone

Vancouver sure looks like its going to take on Manning. Unless Edler or Tanev come off IR before Thursday or they call up Juolevi....but they can practice with Manning before the game vs Arizona. Man if Vancouver takes Manning we should buy a lottery ticket - a draft lottery ticket...that is.

This summer after the signing bonus is paid Lucic could very well be on the move if we package up a prospect and a pick but he’d have to waive his NMC. The summer of 2020 I think is far more likely. IMO the only realistic trade option is going to be Ryan in Ottawa. They will be needing to hit floor, are tight on money, and someone to protect thier kiddie corps might fit the bill. I just hope we dont retain any salary. Make it a sweet enough deal so we get off the salary hook completely as we will need the money.

IMO if you can move Russell or Sekera this summer with our other deals coming off you take a hard run at Duchesne.

Whats up with Eaves being waived? injuries?
I know he's old but wasn't he putting up pts not long ago
He has some really messed up health issues. He wasn't even producing in the AHL this year.

On October 23, 2017, after experiencing trouble breathing and weakness in his legs, Eaves was initially diagnosed with Guillain–Barré syndrome, an autoimmune nervous disorder.[19] However, when he visited a Guillain–Barré specialist, it was determined he did not have GB, but something else entirely.[16] Eaves went to numerous doctors and physical therapists and eventually regained strength in his limbs and lungs.[16] The eventual diagnosis was post-viral syndrome.[16]

He’s barely played this season and last.

This season the only point he has came while he was in the minors.

Makes over 3 mill a season.

Ya lets trade Kassian, so we have one less quality depth forwards on this team.

Heck trade him for a 3rd rounder that will never pan out for us, sounds like a great move.

I think Kassian at 2 mil is the least of our worries when it comes to expensive contracts.

Notice how the only bright thing about this team right now is nobody takes runs at Mcdavid?

They don't have to because the Oilers do a great job neutralizing McDavid as it is.

Lol 30 teams passed on Spooner and Manning, doubt Petrovic will be any different.

I can't imagine that McDavid's agents wouldn't have made it known to the Oilers that he wouldn't stand in the way of a trade out of Edmonton by now. Perhaps he enjoys the pain of being an Oiler, but I am speculating he will be gone from Edmonton soon. There is no fixing this mess.

He’s not that guy as has been stated many times.
