Goalies are a crap shoot though and some teams just won’t take that risk. Ultimately they pay scouts for a reason. They’ll decide if he is the best player available at their spot.
It also tells you how the market is going to be this offseason due to COVID though. If AP, captain of a team and probably best player, is only offered 7.7 million, it sets the bar doesn't it? For top Dmen in Free Agency?
Although it does seem like St. Louis seems to be playing some sort of game of chicken with him going back to the Faulk acquisition.

Such a silly attitude to have. It could be managed fairly easily just by moving Larsson and letting AA walk, bonus cap if you can get rid of Russell.
Saying he won't come because he just wouldn't want to sign in Edmonton is fine but it doesn't make sense to claim it's for cap reasons.

One defenceman is a top-10 defenceman in the league and a top-3 right shot d-man. The other is arguably not even a #1 defenceman and just finished 50th in scoring by defensemen.
They did that when they brought in Faulk and signed him to big dollars and term, before even considering Pietro.
On the worst scoring team in the league in 66 games though don't forget that lol. Obviously AP is 100x better than OEL but I just think that the outrage of fans towards OEL shouldn't be this drastic. He's also only 29 and you can't say he's not a #1 dman after playing for an awful coaching staff and system. Kessel and Hall regressed there as well

Not true. Injured and AV loves his no talent "grinder" types...hence why he used Thompson to a disturbing degree and Hagg every chance he could
Ghost isn't an elite dman, but he plays d rather fine, and 2 years ago was fantastic at it
Why do they need to put in the efforts to sell their 9 fans on anything . It’s not like they are going to lose their 3 season ticket holds over Nurse for OEL . It might increase their fan base if Nurse beats a few players into the ice .

That we are okay with paying a franchise Dman 9+ but not a lesser Dman 8.25?
AP shoots right, is better defensively, averages more TOI/g and produced a lot more.
He also would cost nothing but cap space.
PS. One is 29 and the other 30. Not a big diff in age
