Him and Provy were the top pair and had incredible #'s. Hakstol used him like crazy till he lost control of the team.

Hakstol demoted him cuz Ghost stopped listening to the idiot, and AV hasn't really had a healthy Ghost

Try finding a legit Flyer fan who will agree w/ your sentiment that he can't play defense. You won't

Most Flyers fans are disgusted w/ the treatment he has received

Pietrangelo>>OEL

I'll bet my EX wife's ass that Pietrangelo is and Oiler by the start of the season

If there is a way to get Piet ya do it. OEL is a double edged sword. Piet is just damn good. Bring him in. Move Nurse and Russell by any means nessasary. Pay him 9 per for 5 years. He would be incredible to mentor guys like Bear, Jones, Benning, Bouchard, and Broberg.

@bobbythebrain Actually finding Flyers fans that disliked Ghost's defensive game was very easy last I checked, but that was last year. I watched him a fair bit in previous years and maybe saw him "bad" but his play on his side of the center line was garbage.

There's going to be a lot of head scratchers coming up, but the pandemic is bleeding the wallets of lots of owners out there so they are going to have to minimize the damage to their pocketbooks, even if it's for moves that don't make sense.

But the thing is they have been making some head scratching decisions even before COVID.

Good for them. He can’t defend and nothing you say is going to sway me from that. I’ve seen his version of defense and it’s not pretty.

I would personally love to see Calgary somehow get OEL and Hall. I don't know who they could move out to do that but my lord the amount of goal against would be staggering. And the playoffs success if they somehow actually managed to get into the playoffs... rotflmao.

I think the thing that is most ridiculous about many of the rumors floating about is that James Neal is movable. With the flat cap for 3 more years he is going nowhere.

Edit: latest reports have Piet going to FA no need to go for his rights.

I think it was pretty creative. You're giving a 1st to the Blues for the rights to a UFA (which is basically unheard of) and also partly as payment for dumping Neal's contract.

If Holland is actually interested in OEL he should consider Pietrangelo, wouldn’t cost much more $ and brings way way more value. Dump Russell and one of Nurse/Klefbom/Larsson.

AP paired with Klef or Nurse would transform this team and make the PP even better than it is. You’d have a fantastic mentor and leader for all the young guys coming up in the next couple years too.

Holland needs to shed a couple contracts regardless and see what’s available. It’s a weird year, some teams might let good players go.

LeBrun speculating that a team might trade for Pietrangelo’s rights. I wonder what the price would be. Hopefully Holland is looking into it.
Would it be crazy to trade Larsson for his rights? Gives the Blues a right handed D, could play 2nd or 3rd pairing behind Parayko.

Let’s say they do that, if you can dump Russell you could sign Pietrangelo no problem.

I wonder what the correlation is between acquiring a player’s rights and them actually signing. Would Holland have permission to speak to Petro before he’d make that trade just to get his ducks in order? Would be terrible asset management to give up Larsson and then AP walks straight to UFA.

I think Larsson for his rights is probably more realistic. The 1st has a lot of value but St Louis has no use for Neal. For that they’d just try to sign Pietrangelo.

If they figure they're going to lose AP anyways, getting a 1st in return for those rights is pretty good. It's essentially paying a 1st for a UFA's rights and as payment for Neal.

A contender isn't going to eat Neal's cap-hit for a pick, it'll be a cap dump for cap dump trade or a cellar dweller with a lot of cap room might do it for a pick.

That sort of deal would be more like Neal + 1st to NJD or DET for a marginal asset and then the marginal asset to St. Louis for Pietro's rights, negotiation rights for someone who intends to reach free agency (even a really good player) don't tend to cost a lot.

Galchenyuk is not a center anymore, some argue he never was, but over the years it's become abundantly clear he's not well suited to that role, just doesn't handle the center's defensive responsibilities particularly well.

It's not just any pick though. It's a first round pick, and they could spin it for their fans as they managed to acquire a first round pick in return for someone who wasn't going to re-sign with them anyways.

That's what's so creative about it. It isn't done, probably has never been done before in the NHL in the cap era. We're partitioning the value of the first round pick into two parts: AP's UFA rights, and Neal's cap dump.

It's worked in some cases. Jets traded Kevin Hayes rights to the Flyers and he signed with them. Then you have the Dan Hamhuis scenario where his rights were traded to Philly...they couldn't sign him so they traded his rights to Pittsburgh for a 3rd rd pick. They couldn't sign him either and he ended up signing with the Canucks once free agency started
