I wonder if he could even officially sign with another team with the new league year getting pushed back.

He's a good player who was fun to watch at Wisconsin. Would be a shame to lose him to another team.

Normally he wouldn’t be allowed to sign with anyone until the new league year started on July 1st. We’re still awaiting an official announcement on how FA signings for 2020-21 is going to be handled if the 2019-20 season is extended.

I thought he was the most underrated player in Wisconsin despite being captain. On a team with K’Andre Miller, Cole Caufield, Alex Turcotte and Dylan Holloway, he always stood out to me. I liked his movement and I felt he was a much more complete defenseman than Miller.

He would be a great addition to the Penguins’ defensive prospect pool.

He should have been a more complete defenseman than Miller, he was a senior and 3 years older.
Though if I'm the Rangers, I'd be worried about Miller regressing as a sophomore, despite playing on a more talented team.

He would have a target for sure. But I’m sure the players wouldn’t actually care much haha.

When things go as poorly as they did for the Badgers this season, leadership has to be questioned. Something just didn't fit here. Granato is a good coach with a solid staff. Yet this bunch never played like one would have expected his team to do. IMO, Kalynuk didn't show up to his job this season. As a veteran defenseman and captain of the team, he should have been able to be a real difference maker on the back end. The club was talented but young with K’Andre Miller, Cole Caufield, Alex Turcotte and Dylan Holloway on the roster. However this bunch had issues all season along where the sum did not match or exceed the parts. There were suspensions of players for unnamed reasons as well as losses that should not have happened. Significantly, after the season the Kings pulled Turcotte out of Madison and the Rangers did the same with Miller.

A better addition to the Penguins defense would be Robert Hagg.

So another guy that can put up points but the team has nothing to show for it. This organization is nothing but losers. Just ask @rinaldo (rimaldo) this organization needs WINNERS.

No loss when he goes to Chicago.

Maybe Kalynuk can put up points, he wasn't a dominant scorer with Wisconsin.

Mark Friedman, age 21-23 at Bowling Green
39g 2-17 19
42g 6-17 23
40g 8-18 26

Kalynuk, age 21-23 at Wisconsin
37g 3-22 25
37g 9-16 25
36g 7-21 28

Most of the top scorers for Friedman's tenure went on to the ECHL, one had a year in the AHL.
Not exactly a talent laden team.
Kalynuk had some talent, Wagner 2 AHL years, Federick 17 games already with the Bruins, Malone AHL, and Caufield and Turcotte last season.

Point is he's not a slam dunk like Ghost, he's got a chance like Friedman to be a 3rd pair D-man, anything more is a ???

Here's what outsiders say - Pro Hockey Rumors:

At the time of the article’s publication in February, Pronman wrote, “Kalynuk, a seventh-round pick in 2017, looks like he has a chance to be a great value selection if the Flyers can sign him. Kalynuk is different from your usual late round college selection who is usually too slow or too small. Kalynuk has NHL size and speed. He’s a fantastic skater with a high skill level with a game that should translate. The minor quibble in his game is his decision-making can run you the wrong way at times.”

However, I can't find anything else on him, so it's not like he's attracting a lot of attention. This isn't like Fox going free agent.
Given his age, I suspect Kalynuk is looking for a team that will sign him to play this summer, if he can't find that, he may well return to the Flyers.
