Sanheim's buddy. Another Manitoba kid. 20 year old from the USHL. Not the sleeper pick I was expecting.

Double over-ager LD out of USHL going to Wisconsin. Interesting, I guess.

3rd on a weak scoring team this year. Hopefully he is a late bloomer.

7th round picks are extreme long shots no matter who you pick

Seems odd to take an older Dman considering who we have in our pipeline already.

Would have rathered to go young.

He's 3-4 years away. If he's good he'll be ready to turn pro when the big guys figure to graduate to the NHL.

I remember him carrying the puck out of the zone quite a few times when they got boatraced by the USNTDP, but that's about it. Time to find some other video.

Believe it or not 31 points as a defenseman in the USHL puts you right outside the top 5 in D scoring.

Led USHL D is Shots on Goal (2nd in per game average).

The best players in the USHL tend to be the best players in College and the best players in College are the ones that get the Pro contracts. I would look at this pick as the team thinks he has the potential to be a pro in 3-4 years and could be worthy of an NHL contract, so rather than fight for him as a College FA, they secure his rights before he enrolls in school.

Kalynuk was a former Western Michigan commit that kept getting pushed back and eventually opened up his commitment earlier this year, deciding to go to one of the up and coming programs in Wisconsin.
He's a bit of a slight kid at this point (always has been, he went from playing rural hockey like Sanheim to AAA and junior within two years) but can really skate and move the puck, should be a legit prospect after a three or four years at Wisconsin.

I'm loving these Flyers prospects available for viewing on my television. Have to wait another year for Cates though, and by then a few others might be gone so I can't watch them face off.

He is likely someone that you just forget about for 3 years and se if he is worth signing then.

Very odd pick. You would think they would go with a younger pick. But who knows.
