McDavid is the best player in the world. He can wear whatever number he wants. 98 is a unique number that makes him standout and when he's a player that hasn't established himself in this league, it makes him look ridiculous.

Ho-Sang wanting to wear 66 follows the same logic. It just draws attention to yourself in a bad way.
How does 98 draw attention. It's not like he is wearing 99.
98 stands out in a bad way as in AHL callups or training camp players get those. It is nothing like wearing 66 or 99

I would think people would care and focus more about how Puljujarvi plays after returning from the Finnish League rather than a number that isn't 99. Might as well change it to 69 if you're going to focus on that. Who gives a damn. If you're distracted by 98, that says more about you than anything else, really.

Lmao at a number drawing attention. Posts like these show posters absurd bias towards certain players.

No, posts like these show that I personally believe his number looks ridiculous. If you want to decipher any sort of 'bias' toward this player from me, look to my post history. There's plenty there. I'm not sure how his player number would have any impact on how I evaluate his play on the ice. I could save you the time though--it doesn't.

I wonder what the points cutoff is to being considered a player worthy of wearing a number that is close to 99.

Close to 99 is a thing now?
98 is as uncommon as 56.
Sergachev and Puljujarvi were atleast born in 98 so they have a good enough reason. Yama wearing 56 is stranger.

Quine is a guy I have my eye on heading into camp. A lot of Flames fans were disappointed he was moving on, and he's one of those tweeners who has always put up great numbers in the AHL. Haas was okay last year, but didn't do anything huge to stand out and he'll have some competition this year to keep a roster spot.
I feel the same way.

The fact that you did that while simultaneously saying its alright for Mcdavid because he's the best player in the game shows the stupidity in your post. FYI I didn't say his number influenced your evaluation of his on ice talent so reach more clearly I was referring to your opinion as a player influencing how you react to his number which is highlighted by the fact you think skill of said player somehow makes wearing said numebers okay in your eyes.

I'm changing my EASHL player number to 98 tonight just for you. ;)

Apparently it is. I don't really care though.

Shut up, dude. I said his number looks dumb and nothing else. Stop trying turn this into something else. You don't like my opinion? Fine. That has no correlation to any sort of 'bias'.

I can see your point. Hockey numbers are a bit of a strange animal, I mean you rarely see a forward with #5 or 3 for instance. Seeing 98 is strange as their are so few, also numbers in the 90’s seem more suited to smaller skill guys... imo

I went onto Twitter after 2 days and I am seeing a lot of people sh***** on McDavid for his NYE picture lol. I seen Gregor said that they all live together right now. His parents, brother, and their gf's

His parents look different from last time I saw them on tv.

Lol. Literally your exact response was it was okay for Mcdavid because he's the best player in the world. How do you expect people to take a response like that? Oh and it wasn't just that the number was dumb stop trying to skirt what you said. The number drawing attention is a quote from your original post like that matters or something to the game of hockey.

Tippett has a bit of a ways to get back into my good books.

Special teams were fantastic but starting Mike Smith in game 1 set a tone for me - it was an awful decision. Very interested to see how the goalies are handled this season and I wish we could see how they're looking in camp - Smith's bubble camp was notoriously rough.
