Hagelin is the best initial point of puck chasing and acquiring a puck. Eller is the best puck "holder" of the 3. Panik probably has the best shot so he'll be trying to be fed.
It'll follow the same ideal step if Connolly was still there. The goal was always to feed his shot. The difference, however, is Panik will be at to do more than Connolly without the puck.
Panik doesn’t have Connolly’s shot, and isn’t nearly the same level of threat off the rush that Connolly was. When this new third line scores goals, it’s gonna be greasy goals around the crease. 48% of Panik’s career ESG have come from the low slot.
What are the modern day optimal roles of a line. It seems like it used to be: Shooter Passer Board Guy
Modern era. It's more like Skater Skater Skater > everything else.
How strong is Hagelin along the boards? He is a bit of a specialist and think Pitt won the cups in part because they had their D lofting passes for him to chase down, over and over. Sure he is no Ulf but does he cycle effectively as a small speed guy?
I am just not convinced as yet that Hagelin is a lock and perfect fit for Eller + Panik. His salary certainly slots him on 3 but to assume a line on paper will be effective seems like crapshoot sometimes. Muddling through the 13000 possible line combos isn't as easy as it seems like it would be. A coach has to focus on roles and fits, not salary.
I don't think a line has to have "a shooter" designated. This line is going to score through grinding and creating traffic around the net.Right. But it was asked 'Who's the main shooter now'. The answer is Panik. I do expect Eller to get more shots now without Connolly.
He's not necessarily a lock. But I wouldn't call him weak on pucks. I think he was better when he was younger, but he's still capable.
I think in an absolute perfect world, Gersich has an amazing camp, makes the team, plays great, and earns a promotion to the third by end of Spring. Because on paper, he's the prototypical skater you're talking about.
Can we please stop with the Panik/Panic puns?
It's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.
Somewhere in that speed speed speed line, it's good to have hitters and guys that defensemen get annoyed to play against. I remember Shane hitting D and being a pest - me likes pests for the entertainment factor, but also because they goad D into penalties and are generally more difficult to play against.
(on Panik) Good possession player, decent defense, pretty good shot. He plays a little with an edge, likes to get into people's faces but doesn't fight.
And over $4M in cap space. Every discussion has to include cap space.I assume you meant Panik, 2nd, and 3rd for Bura? That doesn't factor in losing Connolly though. It's really Panik, 2nd, 3rd, and next signing for Bura and Connolly.
Here you go @RandyHolt !
Fantastic. I say it all the time, NHL player bios on even the best hockey websites are SORELY lacking, so thanks all since I no longer know all the players like i did as a yute.
People see my screen name and think I NEED to see fights. Need em. Nope, I just like players that are difficult to play against, and can get under the oppositions skin so effectively that they want to fight. Take one on the chin, and terrorize them again on your next shift.
They really are hagglin’ over who can outdo the other. Can we please stop with the Panik/Panic puns?

I must have missed the CLaW line era, but I definitely know what GMBM's new nickname is going to be.Is anyone else being reminded of the CLaW line? I feel like MacLellam just built the Euro version of that. Speedy LW with bad hands, jack of all trades, master of none C, and a RW who scores his goals in close to the net. Crazy thing is that despite that line playing about 5 years ago, the modern version is is gonna have close to the same cap hit.
