The infuriating thing is that Torts is going to come out and claim the problem is that they're not blocking enough shots and playing their game. The man never makes adjustments. He's been running the team since the end of 08-09 and they've never been able to score. Instead of insisting the players aren't executing the system properly, why not take a look in the mirror and ask yourself if your system works in the modern NHL?

Yes, Richards and Gaborik have killed us this year, but so have Torts' lineups. Ottawa's speed murdered us tonight and he's got Powe scratched so Pyatt can play and Kreider benched so Boyle can get powerplay time. Girardi gets endless powerplay time, which he clearly shouldn't be getting.

Our defensemen almost never manage to jump up in the play successfully. He can't put together a powerplay to save his life and refuses to try something like just sending out the Stepan line with Del Zotto and Stralman to start a man advantage. Maybe if they stopped treated the powerplay like it was a separate game and just went out there and forechecked they'd have some success.

A fight usually creates some momentum, what happened to Asham, why doesn't he fight anymore? If he was signed to be the enforcer of this team it's a total failure.

They actually look very soft, all of them. And players like Nash, Gaborik and Richards don't want to use their body to pick up rebounds. They could end up with a blue mark. Then it's pretty hopeless.

The following guys need to be gone ASAP no heart no talent

So sick of lack of effort ...
Hank is good not great but wtf was he doing yelling at Kreider ? That's a bush legue move no one landed on him so shut up and play. Kid showed a nasty side cleared the crease about time someone did

Holy crap.

1. Hank is great. top 3 keeper in the league.
2. Gaborik has no talent? got to be effin kidding me.

This team is a ****ing embarrassment.

The efforts this season overall have been ****. Tortarella's inability to battle in game adversity and adjust is awful and his yelling and temper tantrums have ran their course. His system sucks with these players and it sucks the offensive life out of it's star players. The power play is abysmal.

It's time to start at the top. Johnny boy should pack his bags and not come back.

A fight does not create momentum. It is just manipulation of data to make it seem like it does. If a team is losing and scores then everyone goes on about how the momentum was changed by the fight. If the team is losing and does nothing or gives up another goal it is never mentioned again. Additionally say we assume a fight does create momentum: Why then is it necessary that it will only create momentum for the losing team? If this is the case, and everyone knows this, then it would make no sense for the leading team to ever fight because by doing so they would know they are just putting their team at a disadvantage. And as such there would never be a fight.

The only case I see to make it appear like a fight has caused momentum is when the losing team has a fight with the winning team and the player fighting on the winning team is one of their top players (ex. you get a Chara, a marchand, a weber, a prime messier, bertuzzi out of the game) and the losing team is losing an enforcer type. In that situation "momentum" is artificially created by forcing one of the teams top players to sit out of the game for 5 minutes (and more if there are no whistles) allowing you to exploit a competitive advantage.

Thank you for that fine explanation, SA16. But I'm still convinced that the Rangers are in some serious lack of grit, and it hurts them.

Torts deserves blame for the inability to change stuff during a game, but I never understand why it is the coaches job to get players "ready' for a game. These guys are professionals, if they need someone else to get them 'pumped up' the really need to have a look at themselves, especially the leadership group.

No, this team is out coached and out worked on a nightly basis. It falls on the coach to have them ready and prepared for what the other team will throw at them and if the same lackluster efforts keep occurring, like they have, then the coach has been tuned out. Bye Torts.

This is a point that is really overlooked IMO. Last season almost everything went right for the Rangers, just about everyone played out of their skins. Even with that, we only just finished ahead of a Pens team missing Crosby for a large chunk of the season and struggled to put anyone away in the playoffs.

This season the depth is gone and players have come back down to earth. the compete levels shown are disappointing, but overall the Rangers are about where they should be expected to be in the standings

I didn't expect them to win the division, but there is absolutely no reason and I mean NONE WHAT SO EVER that they should be anywhere lower than the 5th seed. On talent alone, only the Bruins and Penguins are better. This team simply has shot a gigantic hole in it's foot by not showing up to games.

You're also wrong about everyone playing over their heads. Gaborik performed at his normal pace. Richards underperformed. Dubinsky and Anisimov underperformed. Callahan had a career year. Hagelin is playing about the same. Stepan is better this year than last.

The problem is not just the depth being gone, it's moreso the effort. The coach has been tuned out.

The only guy Torts can outcoach with regularity is Lavy who in turn can only out coach Bylsma.

I'd kill to have Laviolette as our coach. Said it last season and I stand by it.

24/7 gave us a real good perspective as to how Laviolette is a coach and Tortarella is a glorified foul-mouthed screamer with no ability to make adjustments when needed.

Well then how was the team helped by Orr, Brashear, Boogaard, Rupp etc.. in the past? Even if you were to argue that the fighting helped these guys combined for 350 games played with 9 goals and 10 assists. That would be 2 goals/2 assists per 82 game season. Surely the amount they contributed in fights does not offset the minimal amount they produce elsewhere. And these are not guys who help you out in other ways by killing PK or chipping points in here and there (like prust or ideally asham could do).

I would say it is an inefficiency to even roster a player such as this. I would much rather have some random shootout specialist who played 2 minutes a game than an enforcer. Obviously players who can do multiple things are a different story (prust/marchand/neal/avery types) because they have tangible effects on the scoreboard.

Well, what can we expect from the season when only Edmonton and Columbus have less goals scored. Yes, we're 28th in the league in scoring. Pathetic.

Don't forget to ask where was the drive, where was the passion tonight.

It was not to be seen. Don't dwell on line combinations, ask why the team collectively stunk.

the answer to this teams problems is simple. dan boyle

Boyle would just be another victim of "don't use your skating to jump in or cover your man, just stand in front of your goalie and wait for shots to hit you"

Another McDonagh. There will be no improvement until Torts is gone.
