I sometimes have to pinch myself as I can't believe how things are turning in so many people's heads. Now I've seen plenty of posts where fellow posters call Puljujarvi lazy. And say he's thinking he's too good. That's quite the opposite from what I've read and heard from plenty of reliable sources.
And according to some of the things I've read it seems the Oilers wanted to get rid of Puljujarvi first. If that's true it must've affected the way he feels. I'm not saying anyone or any organization is the bad guy, I'm just certain things aren't as simple as many posters are saying.
I would encourage everyone to read this article, I think it's got some good points:
Edmonton Oilers have hurt Jesse Puljujarvi's confidence and his game, says Finnish sportswriter
- He said he could not blame Hitchcock for his ice time situation. “I haven’t earned that more that that. If I didn’t do anything at the time, then it’s like this.”
- Seppalla asked Puljujarvi about the possibility of being traded. “Yes, I’ve seen rumour, but I just need to go day by day. I don’t think about trade,” Puljujarvi said.
- But Puljujarvi told the reporter: “Let’s look at how this goes on. This is hard. For three years now, this has been a bit like so and so.. difficult time but no can do, need to just try fight harder.”
- Based on the tone of the article, Seppela appeared to have his mind made up when he talked to Puljujarvi that the young player was getting a raw deal, but the player himself doesn’t sound sour. He may not be happy that he’s not yet thriving, but Puljujarvi said all the right things, such as him needing to earn his ice time and owning up to a mistake he made in the game.
- Bob Stauffer of the Oilers organization has several times praised Puljujarvi’s work ethic and fitness, most recently talking about how Puljujarvi and goalie Mikko Koskinen are often on the ice working both before and after practice.
