GDT: Preseason: Flames @ Sharks. Erik Karlsson edition.

This is going to be a 17% PP with Karlsson and Burns on it. How could putting Burns at the right circle even be a thought that passes through a NHL coach's mind. Unbelievable.

I was bracing for something moderately idiotic like Karlsson at the right circle and Burns alone up top at the point but that would be downright sensible compared to this. Doug needs to step in here.

If Burns makes the same boneheaded, lazy plays on the PP that he did last year, we will continue to give up a bunch of shorthanded chances and goals.

Karlsson will vastly improve their zone entires on the PP though, as we saw.

When did we give that nickname to Souamela. It's not even snowing yet.

And the Sharks give up a short handed goal. Not good.

From a couple of games ago someone was talking about Suomela, but his autocorrect turned it into "Shovels" for some reason. So we all basically decided right then and there that had to be his new nickname.

It's like Michal Handguns 2.0. Just not quite as good.

Jumbo is still looking like his time is up. Very slow, beaten defensively. This is a big problem. kane is also still looking like he is not hustling. After his turnover on the PP he just stood there instead of aggressively going after the Dman who got the puck.

The little plays from those two are not there. That 'top' line is nothing short of a giant liability, and yet another -1 on yet another SHG. They have given up more goals on the PP than they have scored and Burns, pavs, Jumbo have been responsible each time.

Washington, a terrible even strength team, just won the Cup on the strength of their power play. We have an Ovechkin-like shooter in Burns, a vastly superior version of John Carlson in Erik Karlsson, an Oshie equivalent in Pavelski and then Thornton and Couture who are capable of playing the same roles as Backstrom and Kuznetsov respectively. Figure it out you f***ing morons. Steve Spott would line Ovechkin up at the goal line if he was coaching the Caps.
