To be fair, Nashville was a top ten offense just two years ago, and they had the best power play in the league all season. The only real changes to the forwards since then are the departures of Erat and Kostitsyn (Sergei wasn't playing all that great anyway). There were also the two seasons after the 2004 lockout when the offense was pretty good, only to be wrecked by a fire sale initiated by a terrible owner trying to lower the value of the team before selling it off to acquire another team.
With that said, this year's top six looks pretty thin at the moment. If Wilson and Forsberg play up to their potential, Stalberg improves with a chance of scenery and larger role, and the rest of the guys contribute then they could produce some offense. That's a lot of "ifs", though. Too many for my liking.
And then you have to look at the inexperience on the blueline. Weber and Josi looked absolutely beautiful together last season. Klein is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated defensive defensemen in the entire league. After that you have a highly touted rookie who has yet to prove himself (Jones), an inexperienced defender who has shown flashes of good play but obviously needed to adjust to the North American game (Ekholm), an offensive specialist who lacks size and needs to continue improving his defensive game (Ellis) and a guy who looked all right last year, but only has 24 NHL games under his belt and is benefiting on the depth chart due to a lack of LHD (Bartley).
Oh and Rinne had to have surgery on his hip.
It'll be interesting to see how they look tonight and tomorrow.
