Really hoping this doesn't end up being remembered as the summer in which Chia traded Brad Marchand but kept Chris Kelly (all for an additional 1.5 million in cap savings.)

Krejci for 1st overall is really interesting and Krejci's one of my favorites... Dougie-Ekblad for 10+ years
I can't describe how adamant I am against returning Kelly to the 3rd line center position. The team needs 3 centers who can contribute offensively. That spot has to be Spooner if they make that deal, move Kelly to 3LW if you're worried about defense (I'd move Kelly as well, and see what kind of chips you can move for a young impact winger). If a Krejci for the first pick deal were to happen (with subsequent signing of Iginla), this would be a plausible opening night lineup:
Lucic-Yeti-Iginla
Marchand-Bergeron-Smith
Fraser-Kelly-Loui
Paille-Campbell-Florek
Chara-Dougie
Seids-Boychuk
Krug-McQuaid
Miller
Ekblad?
I still don't think Krejci is enough to get that pick though. He's a good player, but not a
franchise player which is probably what Florida is looking for if they trade that pick. It's also a pretty bold assumption that Soderberg is ready to handle filling Krejci's shoes.
is the Krejci and Ekblad talk just talk or is it a legit rumor? I've lost track.
Soderberg would be facing better competition. Greek makes a good point about Iginla (does he want to be here if he doesn't have a top flight playmaker, does he see the trading of Krejci as going away from Stanley Cup aspirations?)
I think it's based off that tweet that said 10 NHL teams are offering NHL players for the 1st overall pick.
So a 33.3% chance one of those teams is us. Krejci just seems like the most likely. So not a legit rumor, but not not a "rumor".
If Krejci wasn't a part of this team's long term future then I guess the whole "Seguin had no future at center here" part of the trade argument goes out the window.

I really think Krejci for the 1st overall pick is a pipe dream.
Yeah. It is.
But we're in a desperate situation and some of these oddball solutions are inevitable.
I still think he trades Kelly and probably McQuaid.
He will only trade Kelly with permission. Like when Lonnie got on his knees and asked his father-in-law if he could marry his daughter. Kelly comes with a NTC a 60-19-2 record and an A on the sweater.
