Let Carolina pay a third line center 6+ million over the next however many years, add another black eye to Bergevin's already terrible record as he gets humiliated in front of the league, tank in one of the deeper draft years, and hopefully a new GM next year.

This has nothing to do with loyalty but the bottom $. Was Aho a disloyal little bitch for signing with the Habs?
Aho would of made our team a lot better, will KK make Carolina anything more then a little better?

Aho was a star on their team who was getting a raw deal by Carolina for no good reason. KK was treated as well as his playing deserved to be treated.

Its the same both ways, you messed with a RFA they messed with a RFA. The Habs were not heros rescuing poor Aho

Of course you match.

Even if it means qualifying him at 6m for another single year after this if he's showing progress, so what. I still give him a 50/50 chance at being a top 6 center. What are the odds of getting a top 6 center with a late first or third round pick? Nowhere near as good.

But we don't trade 1st round picks and we barely ever develop them.

This will be the one 1st round pick that will be traded because it's a pick Habs didn't have to begin with. It just suddenly appears in your bank of picks. So you use it and still keep your other 1st round pick.

Not sure what your response has to do with either player being disloyal. And KK has not exactly been treated all that well and his development has been a mess. As others have mentioned, he should not have been rushed to the NHL, moved to the wing etc.

I match and pray he tops his potential. The hole in center losing him would create is just too big, a first and a third wouldn't be worth it.

We have no one in the farm to take over.

Bergevin looks really bad right now.

Do you know any French speaking available GMs?

I think you match...

Likely late 1st & 3rd have extremely small odds of surfacing a player at JKOs current level.

If he doesn't progress enough this year, trade him near the deadline, with retention, and get some draft assets in return. At least that way you don't create a massive hole in your current roster and keep access to a player who could very quickly show himself worth a long term larger $ commitment.

Either way, terrible asset management yet again from a GM who has shown himself incapable of "building via the draft" despite spouting that approach from day 1
