I thought he had ruled expansion out.

He may have but we all know that, in the long run, a 30 team league is untenable. It makes separating the teams into conferences and divisions uneven. The only alternative is to do away with all but 2 15 team divisions. I doubt that the league would go for that because a balanced schedule would prevent favoring local rivalries with more games, distant teams with less.

Agreed 100%.

Sorry, I should be more specific. Until expansion happens, I dont believe the NHL wants another small market canadian team.

Also, the odds of a team having good on ice performance if its relocated vs. expansion is infinitely greater. That would be needed in Seattle, KC or Vegas. Quebec and Toronto will gladly watch perenial playoff missing teams (See toronto, lol)

Sadly, GB takes Canada for granted in many ways and I agree, he does not have to worry about support for an expansion team in QC or Toronto. The teams could stink for decades and still fill their buildings.

I think, if the NHL expands, one team is destined for QC, one for Seattle.

I can't wrap my mind around Toronto(2) and where it fits into the NHL's plans. I really have no idea.

 =30... you got sum splain'n to do there Doc.

I don't want to put words into SR's mouth but I think he means :

The NHL wants 4 divisions and 30 does not split evenly. 32 breaks up 4 ways quite nicely.

I know GB wants the Coyotes to survive/thrive but you know he is rooting for a LA-NY Cup. Me, I would love to see Phoenix-NJ.
Unfortunately, my luck is not the best.

Edit:

I am writing off Washington too soon. I would LOVE to see a Caps-Coyotes final.

I'm not sure why I have to explain Scotts post, or if I really agree with his premise, but I believe what he is saying is if GB's vision is for a 4 conference league, eventually things will have to even out at 8 teams per division.

Why do the Coyotes feel like the Cinderella team when they finished 3rd and the Kings finished 8th?

Or at least publicly thank the Canadian teams.
I guess it's easier to be a ******** like Ted Leonis though.
Are you still on this? He was wasnt the only one who felt this why. It's known that other owners were not big fans of the Assistance Plan.

I think folk need to understand that the NHL is telling cities building NHL arena's that they will get a team.

Quebec has alluded to it and Markham has confirmed it.

They have both said they've had meetings with the NHL before building their arena.

So to say the NHL doesn't want canadian small market teams or to have franchises in Canada is purely wrong.

I don't believe there will be expansion, but more like moving pieces around a chess board.

I have a Dilemma. For the last 2-3 weeks I have been thinking really hard about the Coyotes and I have getting a really strong GUT feeling that Quebec City will be getting a team this year but it won't be the Coyotes. My gut is telling me that it is going to be the Blue Jackets because the Blue Jackets owner will want out because he is losing money and may never make the money back. PKP buys the Blue Jackets and pays the recloation fee and the Blue Jackets owner becomes a minority owner(one of Jamisons investers). Is this possible or is my gut telling me the wrong information and I should just throw a couple beers in and tell my gut to shut up. The reason I am listening to gut is because most of the time it is true.

... you cant. He could be talking Relegation. A 15 Team Premier & a 15 Team Superior League. Clearly the mans an Anarchist.

... the beer part?. go for it, cuz yer guts wrong. You'll find several threads here on the Blue Jackets that will dispel those notions pretty quickly. That clubs going nowhere. Id elaborate but its OT.

I read everything and couldn't find anyone reporting what Mayor Labeaume had to say about yesterday's presser..

He spoke few words, but he did say that it's not the end for the NHL in Quebec in 2012. He most likely ended up with the same conclusion as most of us do here: Nothing new, lots to be done.

Having said that, he also said the City council will vote next wednesday on public bids on the Colisée upgrade to NHL standard. That process should take about a month, which leaves some time for things to unravel in Glendale.

For Labeaume, it will be over only when it is officially announced.

"Sign of interest in the announcement on Monday Coyotes, Mayor Labeaume said he had spoken twice on the phone with Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor. We talked before and after the announcement, the mayor reported. We took the same view before and after. We had the same reading. We had the same assumption and we thought the same after. "

I think the Blue Jackets just signed a long term lease that ties them into a local casino.

Exactly why GB put GJ in front of the cameras yesterday. Lots of talk was going to start north of the border and he is trying to put fire Pejorative Slurent down before the fire starts.

Why on earth would QC bring an aging arena up to NHL standards when they are set to break ground on a new arena?;) does the QMJHL require NHL standard arenas for their teams now?:sarcasm:

Just have your  and don't worry yourself about it. From the time TNSE started talking to the NHL about getting a team to actually getting the Thrashers, it took about 7 years. I know you don't want to hear that, but these things do take time. Just Be patient and never :surrender . I think one day you will be :vhappy:.

The COG should be doing this with the Tohonos, in exchange for not opposing their casino. They could ask for $17 million the 1st year followed by $20 million the next 4 years and totalling an average of 14.5 million a year over the next 20 years.

Brain dead simple really.;)

...no kidding. Ive been screaming about that one for ages. The Tohonos are a solution, not a problem. HOWEVER, that being said, there are some serious questions that need to be addressed & answered satisfactorily by the Tribe before anything moves forward. Their acquisition of the land itself was far from Kosher, as they claimed it under a dummy corporation, sat on it, said nothing, then when development encroached, revealed themselves as the owners with the Casino plans in a "were doing this and you cant stop us" in your face delivery that needs straightening right out. But ya, Id be working on that one for sure. Hundreds of millions potentially. You want a Sports & Entertainment Center?. Here ya go, gambling included, though tell ya what, the citizenry of Glendale arent big on it, the gambling aspects, fearing its ills, crime....
