Okay, so summarizing the day:

- The NHL would never fold the team
- Shane Doan's free agency status determines the future of the franchise
- Planes sometimes fly from one airport to another

Getting close to that time again. In this era of re-using and re-cycling, I hereby suggest the next thread's title to be "Phoenix LVI: s Has Left the Building". Read that title very carefully. It's NOT a dupe.

You forgot the most important news. A TVA sports reporter has an amazing scoop: Jamison doesn't have the money yet!

And OA managed to slip a pop culture reference by Killion. Admittedly a pretty obscure one, but an accomplishment nonetheless. I've already created my own certificate and tacked it to the wall.

You guys are totally jumping the gun. One thing about the Phoenix saga is that every time you think it's coming to an end something happens and keeps it going longer.

I would think that if anything was to happen in the next 48 hours the media would be all over it. Somebody somewhere would have spotted Péladeau in New-York or some relocation related things would be in motion right now (considering how late it is for that to happen)

Everything must end eventually as for the media not reporting it yet the NHL took one on the chin last year. So maybe they learned a thing or two about keeping that stuff more quiet. It also kind of help that the owner also own a lot of the media who would have been going after the news otherwise. Not to mention that we are in full on Summer mode in Quebec and everybody senior enough to have deep contacts are likely in vacation.

I wonder if Hocking provided the numbers to Pollack. These guys are amazing with numbers.:sarcasm:

Only 172,000 per year for a casino. What a crock of ****. Back in the seventies in highschool we ran a crown and anchor wheel for charity. I'm talking one crown and Anchor wheel. We made about a thousand dollars a weekend. We ran it for 3 weekends (Fri and Saturday nights). So that would be 52 grand a year in 1970's money. High school kids running one wheel.

I'm going to speculate (as if there hasn't been enough already in this place)

Pollack/Hocking (or whomever) is basing the $172k figure on the fact that all tax monies generated through the Native American casinos in Arizona go to the state and are distributed statewide.

In other words.... just because the casino is in Glendale doesn't mean Glendale gets all the tax procedes for itself.

If the Tohonos CHOOSE to donate additional monies towards the city that is entirely up to them.

There was a guy last year during all the Winnipeg/Atlanta speculation who was familiar with identifying aircrafts that belonged to the NHL and tracking their flight plans and histories. He basically debunked every "Bettman sighting" in Winnipeg until May 31st.

I kind of wish he was still here to confirm/debunk these rumors.

Funny that Hocking and Friends believe that each fan attending a Coyotes game will by thousands of dollars worth of food and merch at Westgate before and after every game, but gamblers at a casino won't ever buy anything across the street.

Would be interesting to know what real and what just wild guess. But then again what the fun in that? ;)

What's that old gambling saying?
"The house always wins"

I don't understand how they can't make a casino work

Don't how much Bettman and Péladeau would be directly involved 'til they both have to sign the doted lines...

lol, you know. Back in the Ballsillie thread days I quickly realized these phx threads consistent of a close knit band of posters who spend half their time discussing 'Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the bankruptcy and governors votes of outrageous fortune. Or to take arms against a sea of Winnipeg/Hamilton/Quebec City'. And the other half basking over some good natured wit.

and yes that was my attempt at wit... don't laugh

This whole saga reminds me of the SNL skit when Adam Sandler is chained to the jungle gym in the school yard. He kept running but when he got to the end of the rope it would whip him back....
