Now what did I post that was wrong?
I didn't say he was a 3C, I said he played like on in Buffalo, WHICH IS TRUE. I also said he played like a 2C in Colorado, WHICH IS TRUE.

Knowing what we knew then, would you have given up a top ten pick for ROR and his contract?
Everyone is brilliant in hindsight.

What would ROR have done in Philly? His primary linemates in St Louis were Tarasenko, Schenn, Schwartz and Perron.
Schenn had his career year last year in St Louis, then regressed to what you'd expect with better linemates.
If ROR has a "Colorado" season, say 42 ES points and 5 PP points on PP2, what is he worth in Philly?

ROR has been one of the most consistent players in the league for the past decade. He scores 55-64 points every year. He's a great two-way player and Selke contender in a good year. Your analysis was terrible and he was traded for a bargain basement price. Many of us wanted Hextall to be in on him, it wasn't hindsight.

Power play points count. Maybe one day you will wake up and realize that

Not in the same context as ES points.
PP points are context dependent, the same player on PP1 could put up 20 points, on PP2, 5 points.
So you need to look at ES and PP points separately, for one thing, if the player is PP1 elsewhere, but would be PP2 here, those points won't translate.

Think you have "hindsight bias."
ROR Selke:
2013-14 - 6th
2014-15 - 12th
2015-16 - 33rd
2016-17 - 11th
2017-18 - 11th
He has never been a serious Selke contender until this year, 2013-14 was his only top ten finish.

His scoring is inflated by PP scoring, 22, 12, 22, 24, 23, 22 the last six years.
But who would he have replaced on PP1 in Philly?
2017-18: Giroux 36, Voracek 35, Ghost 33, Simmons 17 (2nd in PP goals over 5 years behind Ovechkin), Couts 14 (half a season).

Hindsight says Simmonds would fall off the cliff on the PP, but Couts had 17 points on a bad PP in 2018-19, would ROR have scored more?

JVR ended with 48 points in 66 games (57 prorated to 80 games), about what you'd expect from ROR on the Flyers.

Ex ante, ROR wasn't worth a package with say Sanheim, 2018 #19, 2019 2nd and Laughton or something like that.
And there is no rumor supporting that Buffalo would have accepted a lesser package.

https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelp...sted-trade-rumors-buffalo-sabres-ryan-oreilly

"the Sabres are looking for a package similar to what the Flyers got for Mike Richards in 2011: a young roster player, a high-end prospect and a significant draft pick."

No mention of what was actually discussed, but Buffalo wanted a top prospect, which suggests Frost, Sanheim or Myers, not Laughton or Allison or Morin.

Looks more like a rear-end. Quantity for quality trade

Given the way the rumor mill went, the simplest solution is that the Sabres just overrated the players they were getting back. That's almost certainly true with Berglund and Sobotka and overwhelmingly likely for Thompson.

Even from the St Louis end, the reporting was that Buffalo insisted on Thompson being in the deal.

Ratcliffe had 2 assists. He is now 4th in scoring in the OHL playoffs. For the Phantoms next season, a line of Ratcliffe, Bunnaman, and Kase would be an interesting line.......

Ratcliffe and Bunnaman aren't a great fit, you want Ratcliffe with a playmaking center who can set him up, Vorobyev or Rubtsov, not a goal scorer.

I kind of disagree: Kase will be the set-up guy with Ratcliffe and Bunnaman crashing the net or Kase sending it back to the D-Man. The bad part about this who will be that defenseman? TJ would have been great 2 years ago. Last year it would have been Myers. Three years ago, Ghost. This coming season who will that be? Once Myers came up, the Phantoms went into a steep decline until the end of the season when Big T got some confidence and Bunnaman, said " I can do this!" After seeing how Fogele [ sp?] on the Hurricanes has been playing , Big T and Bunny could be the same type of player.

Winner gets Ottawa in the OHL championship game. They got a lot of NHL draft picks & soon to be ones. They’re 12-0 in the playoffs to this point. They play in the weaker conference though so we shall see if Saginaw/Guelph can give them a better series than the other teams to this point.

About Guelph from the local newspaper:

The defining moment Sunday came courtesy of the stick, and brain, of Guelph's Nick Suzuki.
With Guelph up 2-0 in the second period, Suzuki found himself on a one-on-one rush against Saginaw's Owen Tippett, a forward caught playing defence.
Suzuki used the spin-o-rama then roofed a backhand under the crossbar past a stunned Tristan Lennox in the Spirit net.
It was an amazing goal and one that pretty much sealed the deal for the home squad, playing in front of a home crowd of 4,692.

When i'm looking up points stats i def look at pp points and take it into context .

Which is the key, PP points depend on usage.
The difference in scoring between PP1 and PP2 is huge.
The difference in ice time between a first line center and a second line center is maybe 2 minutes a game, and if you look at rates per 60 minutes, that accounts for that difference.
Now the quality of linemates matters, most teams only have a couple top forwards, so the 1C gets better scoring opportunities.
