Bunnaman was also very conservative offensively with the Flyers, wonder if that was taught in TC, defense first, then open up your game once you master your defensive assignments.

Our future captain is very respectful of his elders and didn't want to show them up. But if you want to credit Gordo for Bunny's greatness of character, be my guest. You fool.

Straight line speed means nothing. Doesn't help that you can skate fast if you don't have the instincts to read the game and know where to go next.

Plus on hockey your first 3 steps, acceleration, edge work etc are the more important aspect of skating. Having great top end speed counts for very little if it doesn't come along with the rest of the skating skills.

If you can fly but it takes you like 3 or 4 extra strides to get to that top speed you're always going to be getting caught from behind before you even get going.

Rubtsov came out of a system where the entire five players on the ice were judged as a unit for their play more than as an individual. It takes time to break out of that type of play. Rubtsov seems to be on the way of changing his game to fit the NA style of play. Unfortunately his injuries have slowed down his growth.
As for should he have been up with the Flyers for the POs this year, it boils down to who would you rather have seen on the ice, Rubtsov, Grant or Thompson? Based on what we saw with their play, could Rubtsov have been any worse? I doubt it.

Uh, yeah, because Bunnaman was worse in the few minutes he played.
Rubtsov got a few games with the team and was awful.

He needs this full season in the KHL, if he can stay healthy, it can be the bridge back to the NHL.
His injuries have cost him a year or two of experience, during the years when he needed it most.

Sorry DH but what we saw out of Grant and Thompson was easily replaceable.

I think in Rubtsov and Kases cases especially COVID might actually help their development... just being away from the Phantoms. Getting top minutes in proper 200ft systems where relied on to create offence and play solid defence.

Absolutely.

How long is this organization going to be complacent about the way their AHL team is run?

FFS at least have Gordon coach AV's system.

I think some khl time could be really good for Ruby who seems to lack confidence in his offensive game. He's got the instincts to be a fourth line player but let him loose a little bit and see if he can catch his game up to one more resembling a first rd pick.

Rubtsov got an assist today, set up another chance, and was an inch away from scoring in a 4-2 loss. Playing at 2C.

Playing really well. Have watched 4/8 of his games now and bits of others and involved as a go-to guy on PP, PK and EV.

only 2 points in the 8 games (albeit he left one after a few shifts, still wearing a cage as a result of the injury)... but playing better than that.
