He was on a career pace when he got hurt. When he got back MacLellan finally put him on McDavid's wing. It was only 14 games or so but he was ppg. They also looked good together at the Worlds.

Moving Nugent-Hopkins to McDavid's wing has been a huge success - Sportsnet.ca

Three Thoughts: RNH not going anywhere

So one, he was on pace for, and still didn’t actually get the points you claim. And

And two, he got injured, again. He’s only played 70+ games three years out of seven.

So again, how is he good for 55-65, and how is he reliable, based on what you just told me?

In your closet
RNH discussion is a waste of time. Everything we hear about the organization is that everyone involved in the decision making process for the team views him as a key piece. He isn't being moved.

Projecting RNH to hit 55+ points, which he has done twice before and before McDavid arrived, isn't a giant stretch. I guess we will see what he does next year. Bluntly, Oiler fans, coaches and Management are very comfortable with RNH and his role on the team. I bet they know more about this than you do.

If coffee is an ingredient, they could always sign Paul Coffey, hey-O!:D

Seabrook won’t waive. Lucic + Yamamoto for Saad?

Rumors years ago seabrook wanted to go edmonton.

I would be okay with sekera for seabrook with 20(retained) Both sides get new starts. Seabrook gets to be a 3rd pair PP specialist.

Chicago gets a guy who can slot better on their third pair and at the same time if it doesn’t work the optics of scratching sekera looks a whole lot better than consistently scratching maybe the third best dman in franchise history.

...

Seabrook with 20% retained is still a 5.5 million dollar cap hit until 2024.

Sekera at 20% retained is only a 4.4 cap hit for three years, is a bit younger, and when he’s healthy is still a 2/3 option and a darn good defenceman.

Not worth considering from Edmonton’s POV. Chicago would need to add in a big way.

Who says sekera is 20% retained? It’s seabrook at 20% so it’s a even swap of cap.

We have very few good players left, trading any of them for downgrades seems reallllly ill advised.
Would multiple players make sense? Like, RNH for two top-6 wingers or something. (Not that I would normally suggest that, but this seems to be an unusual situation.)

Obviously the Flames and Oilers won’t be swapping any young stars or high end prospects but what about a hockey trade.

Brodie + Jankowski for Strome + 10th OA?

Oilers get a young 3C to replace Strome, who put up only 9 less point in his rookie season. They give their defence an offensive boost and I’ve always thought Klefbom-Brodie would be a great partners.

Nurse-Larsson
Klefbom-Brodie

Flames probably move Strome back to the wing Tkachuk-Backlund-Strome
Frolik would drop down to play with Bennett.

No to Brodie. Not RHD.
He plays on the right side kinda but doesn't have the right shot and isn't a power play specialist.
Flames and oilers can't trade.

Brodie’s better on the right side. Really, he’s one of the better passing defensemen in the league, the problem is that his shot leaves something to be desired. I would think teeing up Klefbom on the PP, moving the puck and his skating abilities could be very useful to the Oil.

I can’t imagine anyone offering two legitimate top 6 wingers that don’t cost us more money than is going out.

My guess is someone would offer a 35 point guy making 4 and a 25 point guy making 3 and try to claim we’re coming out ahead.

Oh, certainly it'd cost more. I would think, though, that having better quality depth would be a worthy trade-off in this particular circumstance. That said, all I know about the Oilers' cap situation is "McDavid gets ALL THE MONEYS. And Draisaitl. And Lucic but he doesn't deserve them." ;)

The trouble is Nuge is one of only three forwards we have that can drive offense on his own. I’m not sure there’s a fit league wide of anyone who’d offer two wingers enticing enough.

My guess is after we sign our RFA’s we’ll have 3 million or so to play with. After this year we can ask Sekera and Russell for lists of teams they’d accept a deal to and it sounds like Lucic would waive his NMC so who knows .

I feel like a Hoffman/Klefbom deal could be good for both teams. It would give Karlsson a solid partner long term and Hoffman + McDavid is just yikes.
