From today's Spector:

Friedman also reports there’s no concern about Trouba’s signability, noting how quickly another Overhardt client, Kyle Turris, re-signed with the Ottawa Senators after his trade. He wonders what impact this could have upon other currently unsigned RFAs, such as “Anaheim’s Hampus Lindholm, Arizona’s Tobias Rieder, Buffalo’s Rasmus Ristolainen

http://spectorshockey.net/trouba-trade-watch-begins/

I'd rather have Risto

Spector opines that Staal could be the basis of a Trouba trade, but of course would require waiving the NMC.

Why? Hes really not as good as the hype behind him.

If Winnipeg wants Staal that would be more than fine by me. Hell they don't even need to send Trouba back, just take him

He's younger, taller, and has already demonstrated more offensive ability

Why do we care that he's taller? Also they're both 94 births.

Trouba is a better skater, a better puck mover and a much better defender. Half of Risto's offensive production came on the PP last year, their 5 v 5 production really isn't all that far off.

Staal and Miller for Trouba would be an insane trade in our favor. I'd throw in a prospect too if we needed to. I thought WPG might be interested in Staal. Mostly I'm hoping he rebounds this season so that we can finally get him gone

Believe me, I won't cry if we get Trouba and not Risto. But we need a PP specialist so saying most of Risto's success is from doing just that only supports my position. You want taller Ds because taller is longer reach and hopefully a more effective poke check, clear range. Yeah, its an inch a few months, but thats what comparisons are for.

Winnipeg wants a young controllable LD

That's not Staal or McDonagh that would be Brady Skjei and we could afford to move him. We have plenty on the left side and Graves will be a player soon

Miller is the guy that makes sense. The Rangers have a ton of forwards. Miller and Trouba both played on Team North America. About the same age.

I'd hate to give up Miller but you have to give to get.

Actually, Skjei makes the most sense, given the current depth of the Ranger defense throughout the organization, as well as what the Jets want back.

Trouba's got a cannon and would be getting tons of PP time in Winnipeg if not for Buff. Put up some pretty nice production in college (yes I know, not the same as doing it in the NHL) but the potential is there for sure.

Being taller doesn't always equal having a longer reach though just by going off of memory Risto's got a pretty enormous wingspan, though again, Trouba is the better defender (pretty significantly too.)

I think we have been here before regarding other players.. :)

Trouba would be a well needed trigger man for us on the PP, that role is already fulfilled with big Buff.

Trouba is alot better then Ristolainen in every situation, Ristolainen is insanely overrated. He puts up bigger numbers because he's deployed in that way, Trouba doesn't play PP1 because they have this guy called Byfuglien who is among the best PP QBs in the league. Troubas production is literally off the charts 5v5 and i doubt he would suddenly stop producing when on the PP.

Honestly i don't even think we have a shot at Trouba, they want a similar LHD and i can't see us trading McDonagh and i doubt they view Skjei as good enough for now. But say hypothectically they do.

Would you trade Skjei + JT Miller for Trouba? Skjei + JT Miller + 2nd? Skjei + JT Miller + 1st? Where is your cut off.

Miller and Skjei for Trouba and a 2nd is probably what it would take. If I'm Gorton I'm getting back the same amount of assets I'm moving. Jets get the LD they need and a versatile winger/center

I have a very hard time seeing Jets adding a 2nd here.

Last would be the cutoff for me but I'd probably want another piece coming back with Trouba.

I'd also have a deal lined up for Klein for draft pick(s).

They can have zucc and Skjei and that's overpayment on our part.

They can't have Miller.

IMO Skjei is exactly type of young controllable left D they should be looking for to replace trouba.

Is that all it will take? Maybe we can shovel the snow off their driveways for a year as well

No they cant have our teams leading scorer who had 61 points last season and is locked up on a bargain contact for 3 years plus our best dmen prospect. Lets stop way overpaying for other teams payers and let other teams over pay for our players for a change.

I think this is the deal and I would do it. Perhaps a sweetner for the Rangers since Skeji is on an ELC for the next two years.

But, I suspect Winnipeg will do nothing. Sit tight, force the players hand. RFA without arbitration rights doesn't have a lot of leverage.

Some of you guys don't properly assess the value of our own players. The homerism is real.
