I think stamkos is headed toward Eric staal... By the time his deal is up he'll be a shell of his former self..
He already lost his speed and Tampa fans are calling him a power play specialist now... Not worth the money

Didn't he split time between C and wing this season?

It doesn't matter. Stamkos and his agent are going to tell teams that he is a center. A team that tells him that they don't think he is a center any more during a meeting is likely to be a deal breaker.

Ugh. I really don't want to lose out on Stamkos and have him sign somewhere in the East (specifically the Metro). We should've re-signed St. Louis for 2 more years to lure Stamkos here. Stamkos & St. Louis had such amazing chemistry.

Any NYR "come to NY, Steven" promotional videos should be selling Zuccarello as the guy who can be dish the puck with him at high speeds.

Stepan Stamkos Zuccarello
Kreider Brassard Buchnevich
Miller Hayes Helm

coming to at theater near you.

I like those lines!

The "new" Steven Stamkos reminds me a lot of Patrick Sharp.

Solid 1st line winger, but not a true stud. Can play center in a pinch. Needs someone else on his line to drive play.

That isn't a player you break the bank for. Stamkos is going to get paid like a Top-5 Center in the league. He's not, and hasn't been for closing in on 5 years now. He's a poor possession player as well. It's been almost 3 years since his leg break. He's had enough time to recover as much as he's going to, and all of his explosiveness is gone.

Someone is going to pay a dump truck full of money for this guy. I just pray it's not us.

It's one of those contracts that might be worth it for the first three years, and then put you in a really bad spot in the last four.

I think it's unfair to call him a PP specialist right now considering he's still performing quite well 5v5. Not over $10m per year well (not sure if anyone but Ovi & Kane do that), but well enough.

An interesting statistic though is that Stamkos sees his individual shot attempts per 60 metric jump 17.14 from 5v5 to 5v4, the 8th biggest jump among forwards in the league. (Seguin, Ovi, Palmieri, Krejci, W. Nylander, Iginla, Voracek). Zuccarello is 9th (16.68).

This is probably a good list of players for the Rangers to look into. Players willing to shoot the puck on the PP.

"Gettable" names in the top 15? Vrbata, Ennis. Pirri is 21st. Zucc and Brassard are the only Rangers in the top 50 (Brassard is 50th).

I wonder if % change is more useful here than raw difference. With percent change, Stamkos stays in 8th. Zuccarello jumps up to 5th (157.81% increase in shot attempts per 60 from 5v5 to 5v4). Brass climbs to 46th, still the only two Rangers in the top 50).

Yeah, I`am sceptical too - might as well use Brassard or stepan and invest in a better defense in my opinion.

A lot of the non-qualified guys were arbitration eligible. Sounds like most teams were avoiding that and still plan on resigning them.

Lindberg may be out until Christmas

Wasn't the beginning of November the date? Then a few weeks to get back into the swing of things.

Still will be back before the mid point of the season barring a major complication.

Guess those guys can rotate in as 13th and 14th forwards.

Lindberg and Fast are better then those players listed previously.

Alright where are the mid morning cryptic tweets at? Zipay and co. must be hitting the snooze button on their iPhones.

It's more than just rehabbing his hip. This completely hinders his ability to train properly. Perhaps he can come back and contribute as a 4th line guy sometime after the new year, however he'll need a full healthy offseason to get back to top form.

Sorry if this has already been commented but the list of UFAs for next friday has become more interesting with the not qualified RFAs.
A lot of great third liners especially. I'd give a chance to some of these:
Justin Schultz D Right
Joe Colborne C Left
Cody Hodgson C Right
Brett Connolly RW Right
Josh Jooris C Right
Michael Paliotta D Right
Brandon Pirri C Left
Bryce Van Brabant LW Left
Drew Shore C Right
Jeremy Morin LW Right
Devante Smith-Pelly RW Right

Definately much better than the guys we didn't qualify. Paliotta+Connolly would be good depth signings.

Anyone else notice how bad Tampa has been at picking in the first round... Drouin exempt because he's a stud.

Here's one thing about a potential Stamkos contract. Pretty decent chance that either the NHLPA or the NHL opts out of the CBA in 2019. Any new CBA will have a compliance buyout without penalty, so in theory the Rangers could get out of a Stamkos contract after what should be the most productive years and before his play deteriorates too much and it becomes a giant albatross.

Some RFA notables:
  • Brett Connolly
  • Joe Colborne
  • Devante Smith Pelly
  • Brandon Gormley
  • Jon Merril
  • Kenny Agostino
  • Landon Ferraro
  • Brandon Pirri
  • Michael Chaput
  • Gabriel Bourque
  • Josh Jooris
  • Quinton Howden
  • Drew Shore
  • Beau Bennett
  • Jeremy Morin
  • Patrick Weircoch
  • Justin Schultz
  • Kevin Czuczman
  • Mike Halmo
  • Cody Hodgson
  • Michael Paliotta
  • Bryce Van Brabant

Not all of them will go to UFA though. We have a lot of contract space in regards to avaliable SPCs. Would like to nab3-4 of these guys for bottom lines/organisational depth in Hartford. But maybe the coming trades will derail this? At least some of it...

Some real high profile and "untouchable" guys in that list. Pretty funny in hindsight.

Zipay has been horrendous lately. With that Malkin to Chicago rumour and attacking like a child to everyone who told him the nonsensical it was.
The only NYR beatwriter I respect is Andrew Gross, and I read he might cover the Devils next season
