Restricted (Group 2) NHL free agents can discuss new contracts with other teams beginning on the day after this season's entry draft, June 26, which is also the deadline for a team to make a qualifying offer. Discussions must cease if a player accepts a contract from his own team or is confirmed to go into arbitration with his team, be it player- or team-filed.
An offer sheet is a contract offered to a restricted free agent by a team other than the one for which he played during the prior season.
When a player accepts an offer sheet and his team declines to match the value of the contract, his former team is entitled to draft pick compensation in the next upcoming draft or drafts based on the averaged yearly salary of the contract.

Only if he's signing a contract that's the same as Glass' or less.

With what Cizikas just got?

Martin will be looking at 4 x 2.2-2.5 is my bet. That's the new premium for top 4th line players like Prust, Boyle, Neil after a few good seasons.

(PS, Lewis just got 4x2)

So we are going to overpay for Matt Martin?

The fourth line isn't that bad. Get rid of Glass, add Hrivik, there you go, some combination of Hrivik, Fast, Lindberg and Jensen should work on the fourth line.

I'm guessing you arent a huge subscriber to the idea that physicality is important in wearing down an opposing team and taking away some of the confidence in the PMDs during breakout sessions.

But you can't afford to pay $2 million plus for a fourth liner.

Rather pay $1.5 for Riley Nash.

I expect a contract like that too. And I hope to God that contract doesn't come from us otherwise this team hasn't learned a thing.

Maybe he leaves money and term on the table to play in New York still where his GF and her family are.

Oh stop it. Glass is going nowhere.

Based on?

Glass is AV's guy and possibly Sather's guy. His role has zero impact in the playoffs.

There's no reason to think Gorton has some loyalty to him that supersedes winning.

Not to mention, there are teams taking on MUCH worse salaries to get a mid-pick out of it.

Look what Datsyuk's dead 7.5M brought back.

Glass's 1.45M for 1 more year won't cost nearly that much to get rid of. Glass and a 5th or a prospect we no longer want for future considerations.

Martin is another player I expect to be overpaid. I'd rather the Rangers not be that team to do so.

Rangers don't have that many prospects to,include one with Glass in a trade.
