I was proposing Weber get traded, but in conjunction with getting a top pair potential D like Hanifin. We did not get anybody though.

Rebuilding and razing everything to the ground are two different things. You just cant throw in a bunch of kids after taking out Weber and/ or Petry to hold the fort for a couple of years. That D will be decimated, their development will be destroyed and mentally they will be basket cases. I mean given where Weber is age wise and where we are as a team it makes sense to trade him to max value out of him, but we just cant throw the young guys into it like that. Again, what a fiasco that PK trade was. Even without all the blunders MB made in the last couple of years a re-whatever was needed to become a contender, but given PKs age we could say its a non issue to trade him because he would still be in his prime in a couple years when hopefully the young guys would be hitting the team, especially the Cs. Weber is much older, and we are in a spot.

Coaching is going to be more important than ever. It will be OK to be outskilled as long as the teachable moments lead to constant improvement. It will never be OK to be outworked.

Please sign elsewhere so the people clamouring for him to go to Montreal can keep quiet.

Doesn’t really matter if he’s not a #1, he’s a solid #3 who can fill that #1 role when he has too. I’d prefer we don’t stick prospects into the fire giving them first line minutes and ruining their development. Petry is a really good stop gap. We have to ice a roster at the end of the day. We can’t just trade everyone.

Exactly! The team can't be horrendously hopeless or nobody develops....especially in this market.

Who else thinks Bergevin will go bargain bin shopping once teams start losing players to arbitration?

Wonder who we’ll get there and the waiver wire? We have serious holes to fill on D.
