Authorities say a Connecticut woman suffered severe hand injuries when she lit a quarter stick of dynamite she mistook for a candle.
Assistant Bridgeport Fire Chief Michael Caldaroni says the woman was looking to light a candle in her home at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday after the power went out during a storm.

The dynamite went off in the woman’s hand.

My mom brought me an afghan that my great grandmother made many, many years ago. As a kid I used to use it as an extra blanket in the winters, and whenever I was sick. I'm currently wrapped up in it on the couch. It feels like I'm being hugged by my childhood. :)

Poor woman.

As Bruinaura said, who has a stick of dynamite in their basement?

Wow. Never really listened to his music I am just shocked at his age. A singer in a band OD'd last week. Drug problem seems to be on the rise.

Opioids are like the plague. One of my best friends moved back in with his parents after breaking up with his girlfriend recently and I was concerned because he’s an addict. Went hiking with him yesterday with the dogs and had a good time. Last night his mom told me he’s using again and that’s why his fiancée dumped him and he’s moved out.

No one is safe from this stuff. My advice is education, start early. Sometimes even that isn’t enough. We lost a mutual friend to suicide in July because he couldn’t handle his addiction, I guess that wasn’t a wake up call.

I’m not looking for sympathy, I just can’t tell anyone else. I know way too many people who’s lives have been destroyed by this stuff and it’s depressing, family and friends.

It's terrible. Hope your friend can turn himself around and get whatever help he needs.

Still a long way out, but so far it's not turning north nearly as much as they were hoping. The Atlantic is like a bathtub right now, which is also bad news.

I would think you’d leave that stuff locked up on the job site or at the office....

People keep some wierd stuff in their basements

I'm pretty sure demolition contractors are regulated by the ATF...this woman is going to have some 'splaining to do.

@Alicat police have determined the dynamite stick had been left by the previous owners. So they'll have some 'splaining to do.

I’d love for it to curve and go poof but depending on how strong it gets, it could push it North.

They are doing a better job of not getting wound up and are really focusing on having people start paying attention starting Sunday afternoon.

The best advice I’ve seen is that people should do their regular grocery shopping but instead of buying just one packet of something like tuna, buy a second. Don’t go crazy but maybe buy an extra of something you use all the time.

It bears watching for all of us on the east coast both on the coast and inland.

I lived in Florida for years, so believe me, I've seen my share of hurricane crazy people, weather people included. And forget trying to get gas unless you have half a day to spare.

The best weather guy I saw in Tampa was Denis Phillips. Very reasonable and does not get into all the hype.

I admit to having been a skeptic, but I am now a big fan of those wool dryer balls. My eleven year old dryer used to take two cycles to fully dry a big load, but using these things, it only takes one cycle. Still have to throw in a dryer sheet so there's not a lot of static.

I've been learning jump rope, and wanted to make a short video with music I made myself. Typically I'm much more mellow, but I went with a hard rock sound on this one, since it fits the intensity of the routine.

It was near triple digit heat weekend before last when I did this, which was no fun; but what can you do? I tried to don Bruins colors. I got the black, but the gold was a tad off. ;)

If anyone wants to check it out, here it is:

I feel ya, MaineHockey. Been going through it with acquaintances old and young lately. It’s a f***ing scourge.
