What is the difference between franchise player and elite player anyways? Can't they be considered the same thing?

Nope, because guys like Stamkos and Crosby are on a tier above your Kessel's and Getzlaf's of the world. Franchise guys are your generational talents.

NHL 15 stats on NHL 14 players

Been making a few custom teams with updated rosters for a few teams (BOS, CHI, NYI, DAL) and updating stats to match the top 50 EA released.
The overalls don't match up on 14 to what EA has on the 15 screenshots with the exact same stats.
Crawford with NHL 15 stats is 87 ovr in NHL 14. So they really didn't bump him up much. I know everyone was saying they over rated him.
Some of the other guys NHL 14 Overalls with 15 stats:
Toews - 92
Keith - 92
Kane - 90
Hossa - 90
Chara - 92
Bergeron - 90
Krejci - 88
Rask - 91
These guys match up:
Benn - 90
Tavares - 91
Duchene - 90
Hall - 90
EDIT: Just did Datsyuk. His stats are only considered a 92 by NHL 14.

Then it seems that they have changed the way they weigh each rating when it is considered for the players overall. Kind of makes sense seeing as the ratings of the majority of the top 50 players has gone up.

So i just looked at the nhl 14 player ratings on Ovechkin and it appears that his slapshot power was a 91. What made EA decrease it to a 82?

He scored 51 goals this season. So EA with their logic decreased it to 82 :p

Seriously though, that 82 gotta be a mistake...

I just played NHL for the first time in a long time, and I was reminded of how downright terrible the AI is. And it's been the same for YEARS. I'm not kidding, it's seriously unplayable. How the **** this dog **** won sports game of the year ever, never mind multiple times, is literally the craziest thing I've ever heard. I can't even put into words how terrible it is.

Players just have absolutely 0 awareness whatsoever, especially in terms of where to skate on a breakout or entering the zone. Running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Unable to do the most obvious things, like skate to open space instead of crowding the guy with the puck (not supporting him, literally skating into him or just getting in the way).

I know mites with better hockey sense than the AI in this game, and these are supposed to represent NHL players. Just garbage.

I'm talking just basic, simple positioning 101. It's unreal how awful it is, and that it just has continued to be this bad for years now.

I'm fully expecting the same exact ******** in NHL 15. I'm betting that that's a massive reason why we've seen 0 gameplay. All of the focus has been on "presentation", aka the crowd and the new announcers that nobody gives a **** about and doesn't affect the gameplay one bit. The fact that they've been hyping up them putting the real Doc and Eddie in front of a green screen to put them inside the virtual world as one of the biggest things in the game, should be a gigantic, gigantic red flag to everyone.

From what I recall, they only won for NHL 09 ...

Of course, it hasn't stopped EA from advertising that fact on each successive release (only noting they're from NHL 09 in the fine-print).

You say no one cares but almost everyone has been happy about the upgrades in presentation and new announcers

It's a welcome addition, but for that to be a main thing, we're in trouble. Announcing in sports games will always get repetitive after a while. There's nothing anyone can do about that, not even EA.

I hate Doc and mute him on TV when the Bruins are playing national games, so it's double the amount of no care for me personally, but still. Announcers should not be a focal point of improvements for a video game, especially when there is so much room for growth in improvement like there is in the NHL games. I'm not asking for anything ridiculous, just make it so that guys skate to frigging open space and have even a shred of awareness and hockey sense. Support the puck carrier. I don't suppose it would be too much to ask to have guys be able to pull off a simple 2 on 1, but since we haven't gotten it in 20 years, it probably is.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't this potential system used in the past? I could've sworn that I drafted a "franchise" player in the draft a few years ago. If so it's just another case of EA bringing back features and saying they are new.

Couldn't agree more. The players out there are absolutely clueless.

http://www.easports.com/nhl/news/2014/nhl-15-player-ratings-top-50-overall

God damn, this is terrible. Crosby with 85 body checking and 88 strength. Datsyuk with 84 body checking and a lower deking than Crosby, Toews, Ovi, Stamkos... Ovi with 85 freaking defensive awareness! 85!!!11 Over 50 players with 89+ overall. It's sad to see how clueless EA is when it comes to actual hockey knowledge. How can you expect a good game when they can't even nail the ratings?

It'll be another long year, folks. I was really excited for this new gen transition. Thought the developing team would put a little more effort into this year's game. Besides the improved graphics, it seems like the general gameplay will be another frustrating cluster****.

So, what arenas haven't been released yet in terms of screens? I can think of the Air Canada Center (Toronto), Bell Center (Montreal), First Viagra Center (Buffalo), Nassau Colosseum (NY Islanders), PNC Arena (Carolina), and STP Center (San Jose) I know off the top of my head haven't been released yet.
