Yeah Nebraska has a name brand from back then to older generations but the fact is it’s a tough place to recruit to in the 2019 landscape of recruiting.

You don’t have that built in advantage of having talent surrounding you close by like other premier programs do. The move to the Big Ten has honestly probably made it harder getting away from Texas & all the games they would play there during the Big 12 days.

In the internet age it’s harder to find those under the radar type recruits either or not enough at least.

I imagined Frost is kind viewed like Harbaugh in Michigan. He was pegged a prodigal son from the get go (former player, connections to the legendary coach, best coaching alum prospect at that time, etc.). So he’s going to get a lot of rope other coaches very likely wouldn’t be afforded not just there but anywhere.

I think some got too much into that UCF kool-aid & thinking he was just going to do that again. Well now he’s playing 10+ P5 opponents a year & that’s harder to run through when you have a middling roster at best.

The name brand Nebraska has is quickly fading. Recruits today were infants the last time Nebraska was in the National Title picture in 2001.

Great point you made about the move to the B1G as it doesn't get discussed often. The move provided the university with a nice financial windfall, but has hurt the football program immensely with recruiting in the state of Texas. Like you said, when Nebraska was in the Big 12, they would travel to Texas every year and they were sucessfull in securing some good, overlooked talent like Rex Burkhead and others. Since the move to the B1G, the Texas well has practically dried up. Unless the Longhorns are joining the B1G, a prudent move for Nebraska would be to try to schedule as many road games in Texas during non-conference. Beyond the Longhorns, A&M, Tech and Baylor, Nebraska could also travel to Houston, SMU, Rice or even UTSA. Try to get road games in Texas as much as possible.

In retrospect, some of these schools that jumped conferences made poor decisions which they might be better off undoing. TV money is nice to get but when it’s at the cost of not being competitive in the new conference, it’s a poor decision.
yep
funny how 3 of them are in the Big 10: Nebraska, Rutgers, Maryland

You could also add Texas A&M to that list. Leaving the SWC and breaking ties with regional rivals hasn't proved to be beneficial. The same could be said for Arkansas and South Carolina joining the SEC. Neither of these schools has done well since their moves.
I realize that tv money was involved with these moves. However if the the old SWC had got its act together it could have created a pretty nice tv package on its own right. There are some good sized population centers in its old region.

Should be interesting to see if anything happens with Dantonio this coaching cycle.

The team obviously blows on the field which is the biggest problem but the optics off the field aren’t exactly great & this is another one in recent years.

He’s 63 years old & appears to be losing it. Seems like the fanbase is warming up to the idea of making a change.
