Yeah, I think we'll just have to see what the team looks like at the end of this year, speculating now is too difficult when there's 1,000,001 things that could happen between now and then. First things first, we need to see if Ryan actually stays a F/A that long, which, by the way, is turning into one of my favorite topics on here because of it's comedic value. The Sens fans are starting to get nervous and that one guy who was saying stupid things on the trade board has instructed the rest of the Sens fans to reply to any Flyers fans with a variation of "well Giroux is obviously coming to Ottawa", as if that's even close to a similar situation. Ignoring the fact that he's not even from Ottawa and the small detail that he recently signed a long term extension here.

I saw that. Kinda a funny how seriously they are taking the Bobby Ryan issue.

technically no, but his family moved to the area in 2002. It's safe to say that he would consider Ottawa his hometown since he always goes there in the off-season. He's really only in Hearst once a year (for his charity golf tournament). But ya, there's a huge difference between Ryan and Giroux's situations.

Bobby Ryan:

Turning UFA after this season
Has ties to the organization
Grew up close by
Has been quoted saying he would like to play here

Verdict (sens fans): doesn't want to and won't go to philly

Claude Giroux:

Signed long term extension with flyers
No ties to ottawa organization
Never said he wanted to play there (to the best of my knowledge)
Grew up many hours away (though spends his offseason in Ottawa)

Verdict (sens fans): definitely wants to go to Ottawa.

The situations are completely different, it annoys me when they say that.

They're just in denial. Their owner hates the city because they wouldn't let him build a casino, so he takes it out on their NHL team and won't let his GM spend money

Yeah I saw that too. Funniest thing I've seen a Sens fan say since claiming Zibanejad is a better player than Couturier lol.

it annoys me that some in the Flyers fanbase think its their birthright that Bobby Ryan will sign with the Flyers next summer. many people are going to be disappointed. Is he a good player and would I would like to have him on the team? sure but I am not going to lose any sleep if he is never a Flyer. I am not going to say **** him I will hate him forever like some will around here if he signs somewhere else.

I believe that's the goal.

Show me more than one recent post from a Flyers fan suggested Bobby Ryan to Philly is a foregone conclusion. This is a total fabrication.

The only point where this was a thing was back when he was in Anaheim and made those comments about playing for the Flyers. Since then, the idea has died down, and most Flyers fans are very aware that it's possible if not likely that Ryan never plays for the Flyers.

In fact, the ones who are now perpetuating this complete fabrication are largely self-conscious Senators fans trying to reassure themselves that Ryan won't leave (just go look at their Bobby Ryan thread). If they would let it die completely, nobody would ever talk about Ryan to Philly until it becomes clear he's to be a UFA.

BS. I've not seen one levelheaded regular poster on this board suggest that. A lot of people think the Flyers would be the frontrunners to get him should he reach UFA, which isn't that absurd to believe given his ties to the organization.

No, you're putting words in a lot of people's mouths. Would it be cool if he were to sign here, sure. If he signs elsewhere though, it's no big deal, AT ALL. Personally, I don't know if he'll even be a fit here with our depth at RW, not to mention the cap.

Caught a snippet of Tim & Sid (Toronto area radio guys) and they have a clip of Tim Leiweke saying of the Leafs: there are guys in our organization who have numbers that are off the charts good, but have terrible character.

It was an analytics answer, but still hilarious.

Holy ****, what was he thinking?

And does he specifically mean Kessel? Because that's the only guy I can think of who might fit that description.

Maybe Phaneuf?

I have heard a lot about how much of a ******** he is and what a poor character he has had since forever. But that is all hearsay really. He does not exactly have off the charts numbers either!

Haha, yeah...it's the "off the charts" thing that makes me confused. What exactly does he consider off the charts?

Rumors have it that Dion is one of those "Do you know who I am?" type of guys.

Keenan also confirmed after he left Calgary that Phaneuf had locker room issues and a lot of the players did not like him.

Bill Watters also slammed Phaneuf after he left the assistant GM role with the Leafs... saying the Leafs should have never traded for him, let alone make him captain.

I remember reading a few accounts of people who apparently went to school with him... not glowing accounts!
