Here's what will happen. The bottom six teams will be 1) Buffalo 2)Edmonton 3)Arizona 4)Carolina 5)Toronto 6)New Jersey. TSN draft special here comes Daly with the announcement. Number 5 belongs to the Carolina Hurricanes. Leafs nation collectively craps there pants. Arizona 4,Edmonton 3 and Buffalo 2. And the 1st overall pick goes to................The New Jersey Devils.:banghead::facepalm:

This time though if LA misses the playoffs by 1 point, they could even get McDavid.

Sorry McDavid, but dreams don't come true when it comes to Leafs.

Prepare to be disappointed.

That same assload of cash will still be coming from MLSE with or without McDavid. Leafs won't suddenly make the playoffs next year if he is drafted by them. Arizona on the other hand might not be a financial basket case in the next few years when Gary hands McDavid to them on a platter.

Or he lets the Leafs have McDavid and slots that basket-case of a franchise in Arizona into the #2 position so that they can draft Eichel, the American kid, and build a marketing campaign around him and some nationalist crap (we all know how Americans love that).

You guys don't seriously think Gary Bettman rigs lottery drafts, do you? :sarcasm:

What I do think is that the NHL is a collection of 30 revenue sharing partners who employ a commisioner to maximise profits for them. They also meet and discuss and agree along with the commisioner things that are the most beneficial spread across the league to maximise that profit. So for instance if one of the partners is a financial basket case having a generational player allocated to that partner which bumps their revenues for the next 10 years removes a financial burden from one partner in particular that contributes more than any other that is greater than the playoff revenue derived from a few playoff rounds over the next 5 years.

How would that be acheived? You would have to have the Leafs win the lottery and Arizona somehow fall below the Sabres in the standings. That isn't happening at all.:D

Unless Eichel gets drafted before McDavid, there is an 80% chance Eichel is going to be a Buffalo Saber. You can probably safely order your Sabers Eichel jersey today.

Nobody knows where McDavid is going. Even the Sabres only have a 20% chance. That isn't very good.

except that wouldn't happen. They start at 14 and work their way forwards, we'd know who was 6 before we knew who was 1 through 5, and if we did get skipped over at 5, and weren't at 6, then we'd know at that point we won.

McDavid in a Leafs jersey and Eichel in a Sabres jersey would be so awesome.

Reignite our rivalry and would be great in marketing terms. Canadian superstar against the American Superstar!

Let's say the Oilers win the draft lottery do they still take McDavid or Noah Hanifin because of their need for Defense? I mean how many years can they take a Forward with a top 3 pick or do they still take McDavid because it's the common choice? So it would be interesting to see what happens.

They'd take McDavid, and then trade RNH for some defense.

Or they'd trade down to take Hanifin and get some other assets too.

There's no way they'd take Hanifin at 1, and they'd probably not trade down either. Nobody passes on the next Crosby because of positional need.

Which is why they won't start at 14. They will only show top 5 to keep the suspense going.

I'm kind of hoping the Oilers do not have a chance to draft Hanifin. He would make their d core soooo much better.

Even though adding one of the McEichel's to your team would be great, their d core would still be terrible and I would love it.

**** you Lowe.

Not even the Oilers are that stupid. They either trade down to #3 and pick Hanifin or just pick McDavid. You don't pass up on a generational talent. Ever.

They've started at 14 ever since it's been possible to for 14 teams to win the 1st pick. The past 2 years I think? Why would they suddenly change that now? Oh McDavid suspense, except doing it 14 to 1 gives a bunch of teams a suspensful moment, realizing is it them or not when they turn over that card where they're supposed to be. Unless one of the in the first few cards wins it.

Not to mention starting at 5, if that 5th team gets revealed, then suddenly 10 teams know they didn't win, all at the same time. That kills the suspense for a bunch of fans.

This is the first year you can jump from 14th to first ....prior to that you could only move up 4 spots. Thus 5th to first or 14th to tenth.

Actually last year was the first draft where you could go from the 14th pick to the 1st pick if that team won the lottery. So this is the second year where a team has a chance to do that.

pretty sure it's the 3rd year. New lottery rules came in after the most recent lockout no? So you had the shortened season, lottery, then last season, lottery, and now this season, lottery. It would be the 3rd.

The first pick overall next year is an Arizona born kid, they can have him and we can have McDavid, it's only fair.
