Marchand shouldn’t have jumped Eller in the last game then. Answering the bell is called having a set. Eller shouldn’t have been forced to fight either. I guess when someone throws their gloves off and starts wailing away like Marchand did last game, you should just accept getting your head cut open.

“Fans” like yourself are why the league is losing money and actual fans every year.

If Marchand did that, he should have received a major penalty and a suspension. That's how you prevent this stuff. Poor officiating and inconsistent disciplinary action are the root problems.

The league is losing money? A simple Google search shows NHL revenue has increased every year (lockout year excluded).

Lmao. No. The root problems are rats like Marchand who don’t have to account for their actions.

You can quote all the statistics you want. The only thing keeping the nunhl afloat is corporate lower bowl/suite tickets. Florida, Arizona and Carolina will likely be bankrupt soon.

Marchand isn't causing much drama these days when this is the biggest controversy he has had in a while huh?

Pretty much. Besides the couple 10 min misconduct he got earlier in the year, this is the worst thing he has done so far this season.

I'm picturing Eller training daily, Youngblood style, with pictures of nervous Panthers, Coyotes and Canes fans taped to the gym wall. And after finally beating down Racki Marchand, the ghost of Patrick Swayze gives Lars a nod and a thumbs-up.

Lars Eller drops his gloves but Brad Marchand refuses to fight

After the first game of the season Marchand jumped Eller and cut him up pretty bad. Eller tries to respond with a fair challenge to Marchand tonight and he just turtles. Afterwards Eller says “Everyone saw what he is. ... There’s not a lot of integrity in his game.”

Did Marchand violate the code of the game here or are we in a new era where all that hockey code stuff is dead?

Yea terified of that Killer Eller hahahahahaha you guys have Tom Wilson so do not come here talking codes

Didn't their beef start when Marchand took exception to Eller taunting the Bruins bench after scoring a late goal in a blowout? If we're all concerned about "The Code," then it seems like Eller is also guilty of betraying it. They both behaved poorly, and that should be the end of it.

The Tom Wilson who has the most fight since he entered the league and a bigger set of balls than then entire Bruins team combined? Yeah we do, he did a nice job spanking the Bruins for what the 14th consecutive time today?

Maybe you don't know what code you're referring to, since Wilson just answered the bell with the last two players/teams who took issue with a past occurrence. This is exactly the difference between an old-school throwback and a new-age rat, all that extra cement they put in their gloves.

This is not as bad as I thought. Actual fighters refuse to fight all the time...

No matter how much you hate the guy, but Willy actually lives by "the code". Already fought Oleksiak and Bortuzzo this year just to "make right" earlier hits. He also never licks or spears anyone or do dirty non-hockey related stuff like that, has many times stopped a fight when other guy is at a bad position, and goes easier on "star players" too. He has just been reckless and unfortunate with hitting by times and has served his suspensions and fights for it, hopefully learning too.

Marchand should have fought here. He didnt. Doesnt bother me and I think it was well worth a 2min PK to see Lars Eller of all human beings ragging Marchand around in a regular season game 43. Killing the PK and winning the game is a bonus too. Marchand might very well also have won the fight, so its propably better for us this way. :)

Its just classic that he was crying about the "code" and jumping Eller for celebrating a goal, and then go all turtle when he needs to follow the same "code". I get it if Wilson goes after him, he doesnt owe it to Willy, but Eller he needs to fight. No excuses.

If you need to know which side of "the Code" this falls on, the referee let Eller get about as much mileage as he could out of that 2 minutes to make it pretty clear to all involved which players were violating which rulebooks.

Why would marchand fight in this situation? I'm the first to admit that Marchand is a rat, but you guys aren't making much sense here.

Randomize the players and I say there's no reason for the Bruin to fight the Capital when the Bruins are trailing. Given the history I feel Brad should've dropped them.

But the dude keeps his head when you lose yours, part of why he's so effective.

Why did Eller have to fight last time? Oh, he didn't by anything in the rulebook? Marchand took a fight he felt he was "owed" because of a post-whistle interaction? In a game the Capitals were winning comfortably?

You know exactly why he should fight there, because if Marchand wants to live by those rules so damn bad he doesn't get the right to refuse Eller a fair rematch. He didn't choose today to suddenly remember his actions impact his team and he should stay out of the box. Or maybe he did, and that explains why Mr. 20 minutes wasn't interested in the score, winning, or anything other than "sending a message" earlier this season. No, be bailed because he knows as well as the Boston fans posting about it did when it happened: Marchand doesn't really stand a chance if he can't close 100% of the distance while Eller is turned away. Eller is a pretty built guy, and Marchand is, what do they call them... a varmint?

It was easy to say that it looked bad on Eller back then, but if you're not even confident enough as a scrapper to back up your result then you can't really hang your hat on it either. If you can't even square up to a guy once? You never beat him in a fight, you jumped him.

Kissy- face is pretty far from being a 'teacher'of anything life -related...Seriously,.is this who you want your kids to be like?
Not defending Marchand but are you saying you'd rather your kid be violent and solve problems with their fists? Rather they give in to a narrative or a code they may not beleive in? I am not judging you or your methods I just find your statement very bold. We aren't talking about the Character Ethic or fighting oppression, it's a sport, a battle of strength and will. I think Marchand does a lot of unethical things in his game, not fighting and helping his team out is not one of them. The team and winning comes first.

If Marchand was really supposed to fight according to the "rules", then those "rules" are pretty stupid. Also, what indication has Marchand given you in the past that he wants to live by unwritten rules? He gets paid to be a pest and that's partly why he is so successful.

It clearly has worked on you.

You also have to consider the fact that the Bruins haven't beaten the Caps in over 5 years. There was 0.0% chance Marchand was going to drop the gloves in a one goal game.
