What's Washington want from Edmonton for Burakovsky?

I still think Burakovsky for Puljujarvi makes a lot of sense. Add in a missing minor piece if necessary.

The link between McD and Bura. Struggling but big former top pick for Caps ”heavy game” and weak depth at young forwards (especially on raw talent).

What is Niskanen worth?

What is a top 4 defenseman who plays on your shutdown pair and first pk unit worth? A defenseman with 8 goals and 30 pts without any real pp time worth? He is aging but only has 2 years left on his contract. Oh and he has won a cup.

At least there was 2018.

What is Niskanen worth?

Could see him bringing back a better than expected package due to the market imbalance at RD this offseason. He's probably the third best defenseman available behind Trouba and EK (who may not be available) but unlike those two he has a below market average cap hit for the next two seasons.

ok...neither of you answered. Earlier some said he could be moved due to cap reason. What are your expectations coming back?

Niskanen and Burakovsky in a package, is a solid package for a lot of teams, I would even throw in next years 1st.

I think that returns a very young top 6 forward. The Caps have close to no offensive prospects outside of Vrana, who I don't consider to be a "prospect" anymore.

The Caps with close to no offensive prospects are not trading a first round pick. After Shattenkirk I think it unlikely the Caps do that again

Niskanen for Zaitsev + Bracco + 2nd. We run with the potential of Orlov-Zaitsev being a better pairing than the sum of their parts with in our system with Carlson, Kempny and Jensen helping carry the load. If Zaitsev turns it around could be like the Kempny acquisition which seemed like getting a borderline AHLer but who arrived as a top 4 defenseman. Or when Chicago got Oduya and he was suddenly a solid 2nd pairing D for them. Niskanen himself went from being unable to play defense to top shutdown D. There's precedent considering Zaitsev's problems don't seem physical and don't translate to worlds.

Burakovsky for Brodziak + Edmonton's 2nd, we try Brodziak at 4C instead of Dowd. IDK what else Edmonton would part with that we'd want.

Djoos to Winnipeg, he'd be surrounded by big defenseman and could become their Enstrom. IDK for what. Or keep him and hope he rebounds with Jensen after an injury free summer.
Quite literally NO TO EVERYTHING YOU'VE SAID HERE.

Zaitsev is a Pure Cap Dump. Bracco does what for the Capitals exactly?

Distill Brodziak + 2nd into a single future with no salary attached and sure.

Trade Djoos? Why? What’s the point?

Half the time he's the only capable transition defenseman we have especially at LD. Without him the defense gets softer, less mobile, less capable at carrying the puck up the ice. There's more to the game of hockey than a spot on 1 PP. Especially considering he's one of our bigger weapons for the anemic 2 PP.

I guess they can try trading Orlov for a big return and signing a Gardiner and hoping he can be sheltered into a similar role, but that's a big gamble.
All of this I agree with ABSOLUTELY.

Zaitsev would be a good defenseman in our system just like Kempny, Jensen, Niskanen, etc. He'd allow us to shave off 1.5 mil off Niskanen's cap hit while reasonably filling in for him since he'd have support from Carlson, Jensen and be paired with Orlov. We have 0 forward prospects and Bracco would help with that, but could be some other sweetener because we're doing Toronto a favor.

I agree that we shouldn't move Djoos unless a deal is there, but I don't see him being a top 4 mainstay and you generally want your bottom pairing guy to be a specialist or young player on the way to permanent top 4 role

Don't think the Capitals want to sacrifice 1.25m cap space for 2 years to gain 4.5m for an additional 3 years. Doesn't make any sense at all, especially with Zaitsev being the inferior player.

Hell NO to giving up a 1st. Those 1st and 2nd picks are so important to keep

Leafs could use a good LD for the Marlies, it appears as though the Bears need some RW scoring. Ness for Baptiste or Gagne, or Ness for 2020 7th... we have four of them.

a 2nd round pick is beyond laughable. Add a first and you may be getting somewhere

Orlov isn't worth a top15 pick. Maybe a lat 1st on a 1vs1 deal, but that,s why we'd be adding Ikonen or Ylonen to that 2nd pick in roder to bridge the gap between a late 1st and a mid 2nd

Ikonen and Ylonen are both good B+ offensive prospect IMO

Hell NO to giving up a 1st. Those 1st and 2nd picks are so important to keep

And that's why you won't receive a 1st round pick (at least not a top15 pick) for Orlov.

I disagree, if they can get a high end player under 23/24 and the 1st is what it takes, I say do it. You've got only a handful of years left to squeeze out every goal from Ovechkin and every assist from Backstrom. I would rather have a 23 year old in the lineup now as opposed to 5 years from now.

The Caps window is closing for Ovechkin and Backstrom, go all in for them while they still have time in their prime.

If that gets a player like William Nylander, would you not want to slide him into the lineup now or wait to develop someone who could be around his skill level in 4 years?

Rubtsov or Vorobyev + #41?

We'll also throw in Hagg who can replace Orpik.
Ideally I think they'd want a higher upside forward prospect from an offensive production standpoint but something like this is sensible if they can't get more of a blue chipper and they're intent on moving him. Not sure they'd deal inside the division or if those two centers would carry as much value with only 4C maybe somewhat free but Hagg at $1.15M would have some value for them if Orpik goes. Decent offer.
