For what lol...just let him go back to the minors and not be tainted by this ****show. He's already got a good taste in his mouth from his first few games, I'd rather not ruin it with repeated exposure to this sorry outfit, which will be even sorrier after the deadline.

I don't know about you, but I like watching the Devils have a shot at winning games.

If Im a player and Im told im being sent down while the other two goalies are two of the worst in the league this season, im extremely mad.

Thatd piss me off more than losing in the big leagues

I think these guys understand the context of the situation. The team needs to figure out what to do with the other two. One can only hope they go on a hot streak and you get something at the deadline for Keith or find someone to take Cory off our hands if we sweeten the pot. It's not like he would be sent down just as a "**** you" or "you're not ready" kinda thing. It would be different if they had an open roster spot here, but once Cory isn't hurt anymore, there really isn't one until one of those guys is gone.

Fair points, but I think we've seen enough of these other two to know what they are.

Keith is a career backup goalie and nothing more. Cory is a now very poor goaltender, if not completely and quite literally physically finished due to his injuries. We have 100 games that tells us he's poor now, we have about 100 games that says Kinkaid is a backup and then a 40-ish game stretch that says he's not.

I really doubt Blackwood will be sent down so we can run Cory out there or see more out of Keith. If Blackwood is sent down, it will be because he doesn't look ready and he starts struggling. I don't see him sent back because we have to get Cory some games. We need to see them about as much as we need to see more JQ.

Yeah, I don't really mean for the Devils to figure out if they could salvage one, but for them to figure out if they can get rid of one without just waiting out the season.

They're not going to get anything at the deadline for Kinkaid. They need to keep him simply because they don't have enough goalies to signed contracts who can stay healthy. I can see Blackwood being sent back down if he starts to falter or if Binghamton really gets into dire straits, but I think they would just go with 3 goalies until the end of the season. There's not really a point to seeing what Schneider has to offer if he doesn't look decent right away - if he's bad when he comes back, they can just put him on ice until they can buy him out on June 15.

I don't see us getting rid of either this year. Goalies like Kinkaid don't really get traded much. There may be more interest in him from a team that is a non-playoff team that's hurting for depth like the Flyers recently than a playoff team. And as for Cory, he has one of the worst goalie contracts in the league. It's no better than third worst behind Price and Martin Jones. Every other goalie that's as bad or worse than him is signed for less term or less dollars.

And I’d rather not blow up a guy who’s clearly part of the future at this point staring down a shooting gallery night after night in a hopeless cause. Dallas games will be more the norm going forward with this team than the 40+ save shutouts.

What do you think is going to happen to him in Bing?

That team just got outshot 35-9 last night. Some how won, but still gets destroyed as much as this team.

Honestly, I don’t see the post-deadline team really being that much worse than the one we’ve been icing the last couple weeks since Johansson and Hall have been out. Provided nobody else of importance is injured. I don’t think Mueller in for Lovejoy (if Lovejoy even goes) will be any worse and Hall will be back. It will probably be like the last few weeks, only flipping Hall with Boyle (if we trade Boyle) and Mueller with Lovejoy. Johansson has been out the last few weeks anyway.

We could be seeing a historically bad finish (in franchise history, not NHL history) if we roll Keith and Cory out there to end the season. The league might investigate us for tanking if we play Cory more than twice this season, if he continues to look like the new norm and other goalies in the organization are healthy.

lol the league is not going to investigate us for tanking for playing our $6m goalie coming off hip surgery to decide if he's capable of bouncing back from that

Not to derail this thread but when will people give it up with him? The guy isn’t bouncing back. He’s been a .903% goalie for 100 games and .901% if you take the playoffs out. He turns 33 in a little more than two months.

give it up? i’m not saying he will bounce back i’m saying the league is not going to investigate a team for playing a goalie that it has $20 million invested in

like that’s not even remotely plausible that the team is now forbidden from playing schneider

I was half joking. But only half joking. My point was that we don’t need to see any more Cory, we don’t need to see any more of Keith. Now that doesn’t mean we can’t play either, we just don’t need to be giving them extended time because we know what they are. One is a very bad NHL caliber goaltender at the best and possibly physically incapable of playing at the NHL level at the worst. The other is a career backup in the mold of Scott Clemmensen and Johan Hedberg and is a pretty bad starter.

In fact, I think it’s much more important that we see more of Blackwood than Cory. To see if Blackwood can be in the NHL next year when we (hopefully) plan to compete. I’m pretty confident the other two won’t be here at all next year.

I’d only send Blackwood back if he’s struggling.

I'd love to see some Bingo season data but I still somehow doubt they're giving up 40 a night the way he's had in his starts up here.

The Devils gave up 182 shots in his 5 starts here...that's just over 34 a game. 42, 40, 38 and 37 were the shot totals for four of his five starts not counting the Arizona game which was a shooting gallery early too. According to hockeydb Blackwood's faced 429 shots (391 saves, 38 GA) in 15 games in Bingo. That really isn't a whole lot, just about 30 per 60 minutes since he has 848 minutes (just over 14 complete starts), I think you're exaggerating the point here.

if MB29 works out and with a smart trade deadline and off season from Shero, this team could be really good

Where are we finding a defensive top 3 and second line center? Additionally, how are we planning on fixing our AHL bottom 6?

We could certainly be a lot better next season with some good moves and some lottery luck, but it would have to be a historic offseason to make us "good" IMO. Still a few years away.

We do not technically need a center if we can find a top 6 right shooting forward who can help drive a line. This is also my reason for wanting Hall to play with Zacha so Hall can drive that line and help PZ out. Shoring up the defense and goaltending is what’s important. Do that and this team is good.
