Pieces all do seem to be there. Big, good positioning, really athletic.

He is showing that poise that I don’t think was there a year or two ago which is encouraging.

Idk, I definitely think he could be the guy. I imagine they used a 2nd round pick on him because they believed he could eventually be the guy as well

So He just got sent down. It makes sense. He can pick up some AHL Games during the break. To be clear, theres no way he ISNT the starting goalie when they get back from break right?

he looks good but he hasn’t been lighting the world on fire the past week - partially to blame is the team in front of him. if the team is going to give schneider an honest chance to rebound (or tank) then i expect the kinkaid - schneider duo to be in net until kinkaid gets traded.

blackwood should get a shot to run with it after that but i hope that next year is really the season for him to take the number 1 and hold on. when he has a capable defense in front of him

I think there is a non-zero chance Blackwood doesn't come back to the NHL after the break. Schneids is coming off IR and there's no reason to do that if they don't intend to dress him. Unless Kinkaid is traded I think the main bet would be back to Cory/Kink for the remainder of the schedule. Going into next year I think it would be safe to say he likely makes the team for the long haul.

I think that would largely depend on the Schneider situation. There is no doubt that Cory is going to another opportunity to right his situation...there is too much money on the table to believe otherwise...

If healthy I expect Cory to get a string of games to where he is...that can keep McKenzie in Binghamton.

I am going to go out on a limb and say he won't get the ship righted. He is SHOT as a goaltender.

McKenzie will be back but hopefully they'll keep him in Bing the rest of the year so he comes back stronger.

Schneider maybe shot but I would bet that he is still going to get a chunk of games "to see"

Nah. Blackhawks game Blackwood was very much to blame on at least 2 of those goals.

Next 2 games the team played very sound defensively.

I think opposition did a great job of finishing, deflecting in front, or picking corners on one timers, so I don't lay it on Blackwood either, but I don't think we should go to the fall back position of "the defense is to blame".

as he should. he’s owed $18 million and this season is lost anyway
agree here, some are in a rush to buy him out, I don't get the rush. I wouldn't be afraid to stick him in the minors, but if we are paying him that much money, Im willing to keep my fingers crossed that he can get back into some sort of form.

remember after the Trade Deadline, there is no roster limit

We don't have another game for over a week, so if Blackwood is in the AHL for 2-3 weeks before the TDL it isn't the end of the world

Ya, the hot streak is over, but I still think he'd go back down feeling this was a positive experience.

Blackwood to Bing should not at all be considered a negative.

On the other hand, I think Cory to Bing should be considered as well. Why not try to break him back in slowly?

We owe Schneider a lot of money and our season is over anyways. It wouldn't be the end of the world to let Blackwood play out the season in the AHL and play Schneider to see if we can salvage him in any way.

Agreed. This might be the only and LAST SHOT to see if Cory truly *is* shot, once and for all.

eh. The upside is getting a higher pick in the draft if he's struggling or he somehow finds his game and salvages his career.....

Absolutely. Honestly everyone should be very encouraging with what we saw out of Blackwood in this stint. He is young, and it doesn’t have to come together immediately.

I do agree at some point waiving Cory has to be considered. You need to give him a string of games somewhere to see if there is any chance to recoup some of the money and time still invested in him.

This also isn’t the same thing as saying people believe he can bounce back. He may very well be shot, but the team still has to do their due diligence in regards to him before the offseason begins.

This didnt age to well. We deff needed forwards badly at the time but atleast Blackwood is panning out so far for us.

I clicked on this page and it opened me up to a bunch of posts that aren’t aging well .

just goes to show you that none of us truly know what our scouts draft rioting lists look like.

This is why you take BPA. No one knows what the future holds. I think people are used to the NFL where you expect players to play in the next year or two In the NHL it is typically 4 years plus (outside of top picks) and that is an eternity in sports.

We could have had Blackwood and Sprong since Sprong was waived. That would have been a coup in 2015.
