Murphy is a terrible source/insider. He's eklund level.

With that said, the Oilers having interest in Brown shouldn't be a surprise. They desperately need wingers. He's capable of putting up better offensive numbers with more minutes as well. He would be a great "buy low" for a team like the Oilers.

Brown also played two full years with McDavid in Erie and put up fantastic numbers offensively. Not sure if they played together all the time but they have some familiarity.

He is not, not by most advance stats, not by production, not by his performance the past 2 seasons. He is a 3/4 defender. Better than Zaitsev and would be our best rhd but he would be our 3rd nest defender next year after rielly and Muzzin if we got him in a trade.
yea he is, not debatable

Larrson is younger and better than Muzzin, its not even close
He is younger and that is it. Less physical, worse defensively, worse offensive abilities, not experienced in terms of playoff hockey. Larsson is constantly been called out by oiler fans over the past two years
Read their PGT's. People do exaggerate when the team sucks but the truth is that Klefbom is the one who drives that pair not the other way around.

The grass is always greener for some people. Especially the ones who don't understand/follow possession metrics.

Only way this trade makes sense is if we also included Jake Gardiner and the oilers were trying to sign him. Something like gardiner and brown for Larsson and pulijarvi

Just like Risto, montour are better than Muzzin. A lot of players have nice reputation league wide or flashy skills so they get hyped up. Larsson doesnt have even that and is purely a solid 2nd pairing defender. Muzzin was the kings best defender for a long while. The only issue with muzzin so far has been his usage but Babcock is learning and will start giving him more time with dermott.

Wonder if Liljegren + Brown for Larsson was the deal, but cap reasons squashed it.

Leafs would have to throw in Hainsey to make the money work, but Oilers didn't want that unless they were going to flip him in a hour or so.

Zaitsev doesn't work for the Oilers.

Why didn’t Dubas do it? I do have a feeling it was probably Brown + Jake for Larsson.

I have watched many Oilers games, he is a very good dman in a dumpster fire of an organization, people are still mad at him for the Hall trade

Rishaug indicated Oilers wanted Benning for Brown.

Can't imagine any possibility they'd give up Larsson unless Brown was the add-in from the leafs side m

Liljegren does fit to give up since you'd be getting a RHD in return who fits in with the cap structure for the next 2 seasons.

But Hainsey would've had to go back to make it work this season, and the Oilers likely said no.

Wouldn't shock me if this happens at the draft. It fits the CJ rumours yesterday of a RHD that's established but young enough.

Murphy seems to really like the idea of acquiring Brown since he played with McDavid in Erie.

it for sure included a cap dump coming back to the leafs, and also liljegren and likely a 1st.

Brown
zaitsev
Lilly
1st

for

Larsson
cap dump (not lucic)
prospect/pick

and the salaries back and forth were probably too difficult to fit long term for us

They didn't but they know each other very well dating back to GTA minor hockey I'm sure.

In June, at the draft:

Gardiner (re-sign and trade)
Kadri
Brown

for...

Nurse
Lucic (50% retained)
1st round draft pick.

Beutiful Dreamer song playing in the back ground!

Adding around $2m more next season surely complicates it.

Most fans have Brown moving in the summer for cheap or non roster assets back for him to get all or most of his cap savings. They probably did as well. The idea having two PK guys go would've been a no go for Babcock as well.

Interesting idea for the off season though.
