Toronto doesn't need "the best forward they can get"...

Toronto needs somebody to centre their 3rd line. Get that, and between Hyman, Engvall, Mikheyev, Simmonds, Thornton, Spezza, Kerfoot and Galchenyuk, they'll figure out the wingers.

I'd like to see a 3rd line C that can contribute offensively. Mikheyev and Engvall are each on pace for a ~20 point season, they need someone on that line that can find the net.

I think a guy like Laughton and a good rental goalie or another solid backup makes Toronto very solid. I don’t know that a guy like Hall makes them better than a guy like Laughton at this point. They have fire power. They need the kind of guy who will step up and be tough to play against in the POs.

It makes so much sense it's ridiculous. I doubt the Leafs would be willing to part with a 1st or one of their top 4 prospects for him though. Aside from that what assets would Phili be interested in? maybe a 2nd and 4th between the next 2 drafts? Or would it require more?
I don't think Laughton brings a 1st for a return. I'd like to see Laughton and Elliott traded to the Leafs for 2 second round picks. It would give them the utility of Laughton and the backup in Elliott on expiring contracts.

We could throw in Gustafsson for defensive depth at no cost.

Sorry Kpalm and hoffman are not the same.
Hoffman had 29 30 59 last year and
Palm had 25 20 for 45

This year hoffman is still better. The fact you are saying these guys are the same is laughable
Palmieri is by far the grittier, more defensively skilled guy. Overall package goes to Palmieri.

It's not just about offensive contribution IMO, they need a 3rd line C who has some grit, and can help drive the play in the offensive zone. The current 3rd line is really only able to generate chances on a counterattack by using the reach and speed of Mikheyev & Engvall. They're not strong enough to sustain pressure in the offensive zone, and Simmonds is more of a net-front guy than somebody who's going to change that.

You can put Hyman-Matthews-Marner up against any line in the league and I think you're going to be happy with the results. Similarly, you can probably put Tavares-Nylander up against anybody's 2nd best unit, and likely come out on top. That 3rd line leaves reason for concern; and I don't think Engvall is the guy that's going to centre a line which successfully goes up against the Gourde line in Tampa.

When you look at how little Palmieri & Zajac got, I think Dubas has to go out and take figure out how to take advantage of this buyer's market despite the cap issues.

Right so it makes no sense for the Leafs. There has to be a fit for the value of the player and the contract. If they found a way to add a legit first liner, then yeah they would likely at least move 1 of those pieces, maybe 2 in a blockbuster. But he is not a blockbuster player.
I understand. Meier is not for sale, and the sharks view him as a guy who can be blockbuster so it would take a lot.

OK Timo Meier is probably not available, but if you ask Sharks fans, he has worn out his welcome.

And as mentioned, his contract is a little ugly. Meier is just not a good fit on the Sharks.

That QO is a poison pill . Good player but don't see it working cap wise .

Is Hankaapaa available bruh
Idk I’d imagine... cause he’s a ufa we’d like to get some sort of value on him... I do think he’d be a good depth move for the leafs.... physical dmen that can kinda fill in throughout the line up, kill penalty’s and play tough honest mins.

I think I talked to a diff leaf fan earlier and said in a perfect scenario we can squeeze a 2nd or a 3rd out of someone in bidding war(but that is really wishful thinking) but realistically would prob be done for a 4th, or 5th with a meh prospect(long shot)

Hoffman is horrible 5v5 and is primarily a PP specialist. I'm taking Palms over him every day of the week. He's reliable both offensively & defensively, and is good 5v5.

Yeah I'd love either him or Oleksiak ass a depth pickup on Defense. Ideally though a Left-handed defenseman is more of an attraction since Dermott would be the casualty if any of the depth D-man were to go in

RD is probably better for Leafs to add depth in, we can manage if Dermott moves up due to injury but Bogo needs to stay on the 3rd pair
