Rewatched a draft vid and saw Ryan Suter as a comparison what do you folks think?
Suter's attribute that made him special was his IQ, near perfect defensive technique, and sneaky good offense. I think that Sanderson's IQ is not as special, though still above average. Sanderson is a better skater than Suter ever was, though.

Needless to say, if Sanderson is the next Suter then they have hit the 2020 draft out of the park, getting what looks to be a #1C, and a #1D.

It was a stylistic comparison btw not to put the pressure on Sanderson.

So, he's not coming to Ottawa next season and continuing his NCAA career?

Not sure what his decision will be but I personally would like him to stay in ND. Gives him a chance to possibly be the #1 prospect in the world when 2022 turns. Will step in seamlessly after that with Ottawa I think.

He's been outstanding at the World Junior Showcase thus far. I'd say the best player by far from any team I'm watched.

A very iconoclastic opinion. The jury elected Byram and Niemela as the tournament's top defenders. Zegras best player of the tournament.

This opinion belongs to you but it is not shared by me, nor by the jury, nor by the specialists of the hockey podcasts that I listen to.

Sorry that changes everything. It is highly likely that this is the case considering the players who were there.

He should be considering the players there. But best player? Räty has 11 points in 5 games lol.

Imagine, a forward having more points than a defenseman. Unheard of! For what it's worth, I watched the games, especially Finland's because of Leevi. Raty was better than I had figured given how much he has dropped.

Pronman wasn't a huge fan of Sanderson when drafted, but certainly singing his praise after the Showcase, with Sanderson as his top standout.

Jake Sanderson, LHD, Ottawa (United States)
Sanderson was the best defenseman in the tournament and it wasn’t even that close between any of the other participants. His skating is a differentiator both defensively and offensively in how well he walked the line. He showed offensive touch, as much creativity with the puck as I’ve seen from him over the years to go, to go with his great skating and defending. He looks like a true upper echelon NHL prospect and honestly looked NHL ready as he enters his sophomore season at North Dakota.

He was starting to hit a new level at the end of the UND season. During the NCHC playoffs and the NCAA Frozen Four he looked pretty dynamic offensively. Don't doubt he has the ability to contribute to a NHL team right now but going back for his sophomore season should help him with executing on the chances he does generate.

Do you form any of your opinions by actually watching the players?
I watched as much as I could, all of Sweden's games so I saw some of Sanderson and Räty as well.
Sanderson is a much better prospect than Räty but sometimes the scoring differential is too much to be made up by reliable defensive work and impressive skating.

It's just the WJSS though, being the best or the worst doesn't matter all that much.
