Could the ice time difference be because Chychrun was adjusting to his new club and wasn’t playing well, so those minutes were picked up by Sanderson?
Don’t think so.

Chychrun was getting more ice time than Sanderson starting out.

Saw more ice time than Sanderson in his 2nd-6th games. But that was by a few seconds each game, pretty negligible.

Since then in the 6 games prior to him leaving the lineup, Sanderson has been getting ~24 minutes, while Chycrun has been getting ~20 minutes.

Sanderson has just established himself as a PP1/PK1/ES1 type of D. Taking over PP1 about 3 weeks ago has solidified him as a 24 minute a night guy already. Moving forward, he should be getting these type of minutes nightly, even with a healthy Chychrun and Chabot.

Sanderson has simply proved to the team that no matter what's going on, he's the best option to have on the ice at any given time. You could throw this guy into a game 7 cup final this very second and he would be calm, composed, and remarkably efficient. He's unflappable and gets better when the pressure is on.

Thought Chychrun would run the Sens’ top PP. So Sanderson plays the number one D pairing minutes, Chabot #2, and Chychrun 3?

Don’t think it’s going to be run like a typical 1-2-3.

There will be nights where any pairing could be the #1 pair.

I think Sanderson has established that he’s the top guy for the Sens for whatever situation arises.

Sanderson will have a role in every situation for Ottawa, and a very large one at that.

Then why bring in Chychrun?

Then why bring in Chychrun?
Because they haven’t had a good top 4 D in over 15 years.

They now finally do, with their top 4 being Sanderson, Chabot, Chychrun and Zub.

The fact that Sanderson has exceeded every expectation, even with them being as high as they were, is great for Ottawa, and shouldn’t take away from the impact a guy like Chychrun will bring.

Hamhuis was a solid two way D, he wasn’t an all star. Sanderson is already that, and will likely be an all star. I’m comfortable saying he’s better.
Hamhuis was good enough to make Team Canada at the Olympics when they were stacked with d-men. You're either not familiar with him, or misremembering.

Chychrun is both top 4 and impactful on IR.

He was borderline #1D overall, in my opinion. Clearly a top pairing D-man, but Sanderson is a level of quality higher than Hamhuis ever was and the sky is the limit.

He'll get there, sure. Not disputing that. And this all goes back to when someone compared him to a "faster Hamhuis", implying that Sanderson will be better. Then one person got upset and insulted by the comparison. I'm just trying to say that the comparison isn't insulting, Hamhuis was a great player. Relax.

Which of Chychrun and Chabot plays his off side?
