Seinfeld
Season 3 - 5/5
Season 4 - 4 or 4.5/5
It's obviously very well done, consistent, and entertaining, but I still don't embrace it quite as much as most of you guys do. I actually prefer the more reserved/grounded/slowly paced episodes of Season 3 to Season 4, which everyone calls a masterpiece. To me season 4 felt like a more perfectly oiled machine (as if Larry David had figured out the Seinfeld formula) which didn't have quite as much appeal to me, whereas season 3 felt like something more refreshing, experimental, and uncompromising. I also wasn't quite as crazy about the self referential NBC stuff as most people are. Season 4 felt like something aspiring writers would love and cite as something technically impressive, but I don't like to enjoy television on those terms.
Favorite 5/5 episodes so far:
1. The Note
2. The Library
3. The Contest
4. The Boyfriend
5. The Subway
The thing I love most about the series are the purposely flambuoyant/melodramatic monologues, how fully realized and interesting/unique/believable each of the four characters are, the sneaky sexual innuendos/censorship tip-toing, and obviously the conversations/standup tangents.
Favorite moments are the Bookman monologue sequence and "I think it moved"
Sometimes I wonder/daydream about how different/interesting/possibly better the show could have been if it were a less accessible non-sitcom with both Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld actually playing themselves as young comedians, with sort of a feel that's a combination of Seinfeld, Curb, and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
