My brother is home and for some reason left the TV on when he went to another room so I caught some of Two Broke Girls. Good God, that was like torture. I watched about 10 minutes while I was in the room and by the time I was done in the kitchen I hated one of the main characters.

24: final episode of season 1.

I have seen it 3 or 4 times now and everytime it leaves me speechless. Amazing entertaiment and so many touching moments.

Now moving on to the season 2. :)

Sherlock - 6/10 - I liked it initially, but the writing just got to me in the end. They gave a lot of nods to authors of crime fiction in the past, especially Poe, but they used too many convenient and whimsical plot twists and it was riddled with cliches. Absolutely loved the cast though, and had very little issues with anything else. Everything wrong with the show was entirely in the writing.

Downton Abbey - 8/10 - This show had great characters, and good storylines. It felt a little too much like a soap opera at times, and they too used a lot of convenient plot twists as well. My main problem is that a lot of the drama in the show seemed forced. Instead of letting the story unfold naturally, the writer would throw something tragic in the mix out of no where and the characters would completely derail and begin acting extraordinarily different, only to return to their original state an episode or two later. It just felt too forced, and as if this were the unluckiest family ever with bad things being willed upon them for the sake of stirring the pot and for evil amusement rather than it being natural life of the time period.

Feels like there's three different versions of this thread, and a different one gets randomly resurrected every month.

Luther: Season 2 - 3.5 or 4/5
Only 4 episodes?

Thing that jumps out at me is that it's a MUCH more engaging/effective take on cinematic terrorism than that sort of thing in TDK/Skyfall.

It still doesn't feel like something I fully embrace or will care too much about/remember in a few weeks time, though.

Plan on watching this once I finish the Wire.

I read somewhere (and noticed) that British tv series' seasons only typically last 5-8 episodes.

Yeah I know. Six is the norm I think (I actually strongly prefer to consume television that way-- I find that it's usually detrimental when a show approaches twenty episodes a season).

Four still feels weird to me.

Kids on the Slope - 3/5

From the guy who brought you Cowboy Bebop. The version I watched had a really terrible english dub and really cheesy dialogue, and sometimes the lead feels annoyingly whiney/unrelateable, but somehow the slice-of-life/coming of age quality still got through to me. The Jazz aspect is excellent.

Not nearly as good as his other two series (sometimes alarmingly so), but it sure inspired me to binge-listen to some jazz.

Finished Battlestar Galactica not too long ago. I hated the last 20 or so minutes of the ending, it felt rushed and messy. I felt the writers could have brought a lot more closure to each of the characters. Overall though, I really enjoyed the series despite the rough filler episodes.

Finale: 63/100

Series: 84/100

Mad Men: First half of Season 1 - 3/5

Finally getting around to seeing this-- I enjoy it and see nothing wrong with it, but I feel a little disappointed-- From the reputation it has, I expected something less fun/accessible than Breaking Bad but more poignant, perfect, and satisfying, but so far it feels like at best a similar caliber, if not a lesser show altogether.

I will say this-- It's probably the best show I've seen where none of the performances seem to be any better than simply good/serviceable (feels most of the actors/actresses would be average otherwise but have strong material to work with-- Like Draper, Betty, and Pete).

Does it get better?

It gets better if you get more invested in the characters. I think it's the best written show on television and there's a very interesting artistic air to it, it's not just straight plot. They pay attention to detail and frankly, it's a very cool peek into another world.

I agree/can see most of that so far, but I've only felt a few hints of an "artistic air" to it here and there.

Mad Men: Season 1 - 3
Solid show, seems to be very carefully put together and thought out, but it's been a little bit of a detached/sterile viewing me for me so far-- feels very mechanical to me. I like how well the therapy semi-reveal in the final episode was handled. I can't say I was remotely interested in his mysterious past backstory throughout the season.

[SPOIL]This isn't necessarily a complaint or even a factor related to how much I like the show, but how in god's name is it possible for someone to not notice they're pregnant all the way up until the day (??) she gives birth?!?! I accepted it when the doctor told her, assuming she wasn't that far along, but when the baby immediately popped out after she found out, I was completely baffled. Was there a better explanation for this other than "Everyone just thought she was fat?"[/SPOIL]

Bob's Burgers: Season 1 - 2/5
Watched this on a whim, and it was alot of fun-- Nothing amazing, but pleasantly surprised it didn't turn out to be another childish McFarlane-type show.

The random overhead shots is simple but kind of neat for a show like this, the scream-humor actually kind of works, and Kristen Schaal is awesome. Also love how Tina's creepy puberty fantasies escalate and appear again later.

Bob's Burgers: Seasons 2-3 - 2 or 2.5

I'm not sure why I watched so much of this-- It's not AMAZING, and there are some underwhelming episodes, but there's a certain charm to it that grabbed onto me.

I feel a hint of early Simpsons nostalgia/sentimentality/charm from it (a very very small hint, but there nonetheless), the characters are actually kind of adorable, relateable/touching, and hilarious (Tina and Louise). I love how the showrunners seem to put the care/time into it to come up with all the little quirks-- the awful-on-purpose music parodies, fun-looking characters/faces, credits-gags which are surprisingly well animated, occasionally experimental animated sequences, etc.

If I'm greedy I would say that I wish it was even more Simpsons and way less Family Guy though.

Also, My Neighbor Totoro reference-- I loved that.

Breaking Bad: Season 5 - 3.5 or 4/5
I thought it was a so-so season outside of the two absolutely fantastic leadup-to-finale episodes. Disappointed by the finale-- It was technically well done, but felt completely telegraphed and uninspired from start to finish. I'm back to feeling like the series is great (with some really amazing moments) but not brilliant.

Season 1 - 3/5
Season 2 - 4/5
Season 3 - 4/5 (favorite)
Season 4 - 3.5/5
Season 5 - 4/5

Overall: 4/5

Favorite Episodes:
1. Ozymandias
2. Better Call Saul
2. Half Measures
3. Cancer Man
4. Over
5. Full Measures
6. Granite State
7. Crawl Space
8. 4 Days Out
9. Sunset
10. End Times

Seinfeld
Season 1: 2.5/5
Season 2: 3/5

I really love the feel of the earlier seasons. They're not as perfect, but they're so much more grounded.

Seasons 1-3 of Luther

I flew through this show in just under a fortnight and for the life of me I can't figure out why. I absolutely loved the pilot along with every Alice scene but overall the show just wasn't my cup of tea. I do have to hand it to the creators for the balls they showed by balancing each typical cop show cliche with a completely "omg wtf" moment -- it was definitely more original than most in that regard. However, in the end the subject matter was just too much of a turnoff for me to enjoy the two great performances by Elba and the actress who portrayed Alice. I would recommend the first season to anyone, but as a complete show I could take it or leave it, and will most likely leave it.

Season 1: 8/10
Season 2: 6.5/10
Season 3: 7/10 (solely due to the finale)

Seinfeld
Season 3 - 5/5
Season 4 - 4 or 4.5/5

It's obviously very well done, consistent, and entertaining, but I still don't embrace it quite as much as most of you guys do. I actually prefer the more reserved/grounded/slowly paced episodes of Season 3 to Season 4, which everyone calls a masterpiece. To me season 4 felt like a more perfectly oiled machine (as if Larry David had figured out the Seinfeld formula) which didn't have quite as much appeal to me, whereas season 3 felt like something more refreshing, experimental, and uncompromising. I also wasn't quite as crazy about the self referential NBC stuff as most people are. Season 4 felt like something aspiring writers would love and cite as something technically impressive, but I don't like to enjoy television on those terms.

Favorite 5/5 episodes so far:
1. The Note
2. The Library
3. The Contest
4. The Boyfriend
5. The Subway

The thing I love most about the series are the purposely flambuoyant/melodramatic monologues, how fully realized and interesting/unique/believable each of the four characters are, the sneaky sexual innuendos/censorship tip-toing, and obviously the conversations/standup tangents.

Favorite moments are the Bookman monologue sequence and "I think it moved"

Sometimes I wonder/daydream about how different/interesting/possibly better the show could have been if it were a less accessible non-sitcom with both Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld actually playing themselves as young comedians, with sort of a feel that's a combination of Seinfeld, Curb, and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

Seinfeld: Season 5 - 4/5
Alot of fun, but I don't really think this era of the show was among the best of all time, personally. Sometimes it feels a little gimmicky rather than inspired to me. I actually think this season is where I start to prefer Curb Your Enthusiasm over this.

Favorite episodes haven't changed-- All my favorites are still in S3-S4.
